Having owned multiple MB products Im glad that its not a reskin SLK I feel that a number of them drive like an old mans car and wait until the warranty runs out :/True. We've been waiting for a new Z a long time. And making it affordable is key to enthusiasts.
However, I'm playing on the mentality that, for example, the C6 Vette was "fairly new" when the C7 came out, as was the C7 when the C8 came out. Nissan gave us the 350Z then the 370Z, then...wait...wait...wait... an "all-new" (not really) 400Z!
Granted, I didn't think we'd see a next-generation BRZ/86 either. So, Kudos to Toyota and Subaru. I mean, still no turbo, but at least they weren't killed off.
I remember like 5-ish years ago hearing plenty of rumors of the next generation Z being completely new along with a Mercedes-Benz partnership offering an AMG engine. Just like BMW partnered with Toyota. Now, THAT would've been, as Paris Hilton would say, "hot!" Lol. Sure, the pricing would probably be above the current estimates of mid-30's to mid-40's, but I think it would've been a formidable opponent to the 3.0 Supra ($50-$60k?)
Surely, we'll all have to drive the new Z to make an honest verdict. Seeing the yellow pre-production model everywhere is hardly a done deal - for some. (Yes, I know there are plenty of rich car folk who purchase a car before they even drive it or even before the first model ever leaves the assembly line.) We'll soon be flooded with reviews from performance shops, auto journalists and of course wealthy social media influencers with plenty of click-bait to go along. I'm sure we'll see plenty of love/hate for it as we did for the Supra.
I will definitely want to drive one when it comes out. But based on my history of owning a 350Z and a 370Z and the underpinnings of the coming model, I think it may match the 3.0 Supra in terms of performance, but definitely not refinement. (This is where M-B involvement would've benefited.)
dang the supra looks a lot better to be honest, way more exotic looking imo. Z still lookin kinda basic with the styling. Rear end is cool but looks like a mustang. doesn't look as timeless as they were going for I think. Idk. I'm still not sold. But I'm not really in the market for another Japanese branded car so it's only my personal thoughts in the end.You can briefly see a Supra roll by.
How are you supposed to see out of that? I know there's cameras but stillFound a clearer one. It looks pretty much the same as the 370.
Seems to be the verdict everyone comes to once they see it in person...I wonder what other car went thru this recentlyMust have after seeing it in person.
when you say “refinement” what do you mean? What will the new Z car not have that the Supra does?True. We've been waiting for a new Z a long time. And making it affordable is key to enthusiasts.

A modern chassis?when you say “refinement” what do you mean? What will the new Z car not have that the Supra does?
when youve tracked a 370 with the chassis updates they used for the new Z, what limitations did you run into that werent there on the Supra?A modern chassis?
That’s exactly what I thought. I think the new Z looks slick but then the Supra drove by and just had 10xs more style. No knock on the Z tho, can’t wait to see them on the road. I love the rear but still hate how the front looks. It’s just exciting seeing another option launching soon.dang the supra looks a lot better to be honest, way more exotic looking imo. A lot of the interior (especially) bits and pieces appear to be carried over from the 370Z. I recall lots of reviews complaining about how plasticky everything was in that Z. I had no gripes with mine, but when priced between $35k and $45k, I'm sure the cost-cutting will be obvious when compared to the Supra.when you say “refinement” what do you mean? LED displays in dashboards and infotainment have gotten significantly more affordable for automakers since the 2008 introduction of the 370Z. We've already seen that in its cool interior. However, hopefully there'll be improvements in structural rigidity which will make it more like the Supra than the BRZ/86 twins. We'll just have to wait and see.
i think it will be interesting to see what becomes of it. It isnt the first time a chassis (i always pronounce that like a brit in my head shassiss) has been carried over but improved.Obviously I haven't, and you're speculating as well. And I'm okay with that.
