No the Z is the closest competitor to the Supra. They have the exact layout, similar size, RWD, 2 seater with the driver positioned closer to the rear wheels, around 400hp. Now the Supra has BMW level quality while the Z will have Nissan level quality. Also I prefer I6T > V6TT on smoothness mostly.

It's funny how many people say the Supra isn't a true Supra because of BMW which I understand yet despite that it has the engine design of the original Supra which is a I6. The original 240Z was also an I6 yet despite having a V6 now it's seen as a true Z. I'm guessing most Supra haters would've been fine with a heavier Lexus chassis and a V6/V8 with a Supra body.

Agreed. I'm very happy they went this route with I6 and lighter body than heavy v6/v8 clunker. Even if they were to use heavy Lexus chassis people would scream about it not being I6. Can't please everyone but I'm thrilled with it. BMW partnership would only be a bad thing if the end result of said partnership was a slow, shitty car and at that point we could go back and point to the partnership as bad because of cutting corners, cost saving, etc. But because the finished product is superb I feel like its a moot point. If people didn't know it was part BMW they would love it and be none the wiser

True, I saw the Z at the Cleveland Auto Show yesterday, but it was locked obviously. But it's not a far stretch to say that if you want a BMW level of quality interior, you'd have to step up to Infiniti.

Side note, I did sit in the new GR86 and that was surprisingly nice. Roomier than the old one, and a very nice steering wheel. Harder to get into than the Supra though. Think my head was between my knees trying to squeeze in ?
So what did you honestly think of the Z after seeing it in person, or should I be afraid to ask? ?

I still like my BMW interior from 2009 and feel like their interiors in general age well. For a while they were using some pretty bad black coatings for plastics on the doors, steering wheel and various other places that would begin to peel and flake with only light use, but this seems to have been fixed for the most part for at least the last half decade or so.

Can't get past that front end. It's so awful. The square grill with those silly headlights, it looks like crap

You pretty much summed up how Supraforums feels.

They went cheap on the design to add cooling. The 370Z was lacking oil cooling etc. Supposedly this design, given the 2 turbo's etc was set to avoid that embarrassment etc. Given the low cost nature of its design they went practical over style and tried show it as a retro link. I think it failed along with the back.

But but its got a 'manual' bro LOL :)

Lmao. Their only selling point, and that's gone now too with the manual Supra coming.

I wasn’t a die hard Supra fan. I actually didn’t pay much attention until the A90, I just think it looked better than the older models. With that said, the partnership was great to me. I really don’t like most of the Toyota interiors. They seem to be real boxy/ square while the interior for the GR Supra is nice, smooth and sleek, I’m real thankful for that.

Gran Turismo 7 has the new Z at 3400 lbs in Performance trim. However that goes against the curb weights listed for Canada by almost 200lbs. It could be GT7 is quoting dry weight.

I feel like the Z is like an old mustang: cheap horsepower and not much else

Yeah, I mean the new Mustangs have that crowd control feature I see on YouTube all the time but they’re still basically cheap horsepower and not much else ?‍♂

To me the Nissan seems like a great first sports car. I think it will be a decent performer, but not as agile or refined as some other cars out there. I suspect the driving dynamics won’t be that different from the current Z370. Also, to me the interior screams immaturity but that’s just my opinion. I get why someone may like it.

Just a video game. I remember building a 1400hp Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4 on GT3 lol.

Polyphony calling Nissan:

"Can we have the Z?"
"Sure, but uhhhh"
"What?"
"Can you drop the weight a smidge.... and maybe make it better in game than it is in real life? Help sales?"
"Sure"

Well, the main demographic for the 350Z and 370Z is the immature crowd, and Nissan still seems to be sticking to catering to that group of people with the 'new' Z. On the road, I see more 350Zs with questionable modifications than stock or non-riced-out 350Zs, it's incredible. I've always felt indifferent about these kinds of cheap horsepower cars, yeah sure they can go fast in a straight line, but now what? Straight line performance is just one of the many aspects that makes a great high performance car.

The 350/370 seems to be older than some of the people that comment here.
When cars hit the used car market, it will attract the "immature" crowd. The 350Z community was "mature" and as time went on, you saw the ricers joining the forum.
This formula has always been the same. It will happen to your Supra as well.
Do you think the BMW crowd is mature? Around here, BMWs seem to be the latest rice rocket.
