Another L for the Z, NISMO edition

But not by much. Objectively Supra = winner. Subjectively... I can't totally fault people who simply like the looks of the Z or have always kinda of liked them or wanted one from buying them. It doesn't suck at all. Subjectively each person will have a preference based on one or more reasons whatever they are and stick with it.

Yeah, I know, the Nissan is an updated version of the last gen which is ancient in modern terms. But driving to work or something, do you really notice? Maybe, maybe not.

I just think the Z has been a complete miss, on paper and on the road. Nissan apologists seem to constantly make excuses for it and this is one of the only comparisons where they have, if politely, just called it without all the "if we change the.. [insert whatever you like] the Z would be better than the Supra.

The problem is its almost impossible for journalist to give a win to the Z when its a "worse sports car". When in reality I would bet the Z cars overall are actually better everyday road cars. I personally have no problems with them. I actually think they look great as well.

I'm not sure how that actually computes. I mean, a Corolla is a way better every day road car than both of them. Smells like the "its all about driver engagement" line that is used when a car is actually slow af.

i'm still waiting for them to make a NISMO edition of anything that's actually worth the price hike.

A slight tune + a good but not great suspension swap + overpriced seats + hit or miss body kit + exhaust you're gonna swap out anyways is not worth paying an extra 30-40% more over the non-nismo.

Also, hilarious the auto Z is slower to 60mph than the manual Supra.

If you want a bit of a laugh or want to play a very easy spot the excuse game, there's a support group meeting on the Z forums.

My favorite is the guy who's owned over one hundred and fifty cars and quite rightly suggests people who own cars suffer from confirmation bias.. before, you know.. providing us a text book example of confirmation bias.

The Z is a great car for those nostalgic for model. Nissan should have priced it accordingly. They overestimated the market and paid for it.
Nobody is paying those prices just because they are loyal to the brand.

That`s why we have segments. A corolla is not in this segment. Its not being considered in this comparison.

Are you serious? The segment has absolutely no relation to your bullshit "better everyday road car" metric.. whatever that even means.

Honestly, outside of its looks - which are arbitrary - and maybe the whole "lineage" thing, the Z has absolutely nothing on the Supra. Literally nothing. Every day. On every road.

If you want to champion the car, you're going to have to provide something a little more concrete.

The Z is easier to get in and out and has a softer suspension. I would assume overall the car is "softer". But compared to normal cars its still vastly more engaging. I do not have a problem with the Z for a street driven car. I personally just prefer the Supra. I would never knock someone for getting the Z. I actually think the Nismo in particular looks great, maybe even better looking than the Supra. For a car I take to the gym and cars and coffee it would work fine. In a world full of SUVs, Trucks, EVs the Z is a special car (and Supra).

I am just amazed Nissan and Toyota right now both have gas powered sports cars in the market today. Probably the last time we see it like this.

I actually think the Nismo in particular looks great, maybe even better looking than the Supra. For a car I take to the gym and cars and coffee it would work fine. I actually think the Z with the new front bumper actually looks quite good and the Nismo is the best looking of the bunch. It's just a disappointing package overall and if I'm being honest, up close, even the styling is a little undercooked. And yes, it is easier to get into and it is softer but if we're taking all that into account, I think the FL5 Type R has it covered.. although I think that car is an incredibly bland car to look at.
