Start/stop doesn't get effected. Valves will be useless since the AWE touring doesn't retain it. You'll keep other sport mode functions though.

I have the HKS exhaust. Cold starts can be a bit loud but I think it's slightly louder than stock exhaust when car is running in normal mode. Sport mode is definitely louder than stock but in my opinion it's not obnoxiously loud. I'm running the stock dp at the moment. I'll try to get some sound clips. I ordered AA dp so I'm curious to see what it sounds like once I get it installed.
I have a HKS too and just add an Active Autowerks down pipe. A cold start is much louder with AA down pipe, but once warmed up is just a little louder than without the downpipe. There is power gain with the downpipe and just waiting to receive MHD Un-locker, then I will use an OTS tune.

I’ve owned both with the AA catted DP. HKS is deep and smooth. AWE has so much mid range and character, much louder outside, quieter inside and no need for the valve. 100% the better sound. HKS tucks up and under much better than the AWE. Only category it wins for me.

AWE > HKS for everything except hanging low under the car.

Some people like me actually prefer the visible mufflers of the AWE

I think the HKS sounds amazing. The AWE may sound slightly "better" to some people. I went HKS because of tidy it is. It sits extremely close to the underbody which allows you to run off the shelf diffusers and more easily fab underbody components. If that's not important, it's really just sound preference.

I get a lot of compliments on my HKS + DP

Don't get me wrong, sounds great! With the catted DP it had a ton of low end boom to it...but gosh darn the AWE mid range does it for me. Cannot agree more, even with hours of adjustment the HKS just tucks up so much nice with the 2.75" dual pipe
