B58 tapping noise

So, are the high pressure fuel pumps supposed to exhibit lifter tick-like sounds? I hear the dang thing clinking off of close cars driving by, or even hear it softly clicking away at idle from inside. Is it normal? I'll post a video from under the hood shortly.

It's the direct injectors, not the fuel pump.

I do hear the injectors. I took a stethoscope to the fuel pump; can hear it click away through it as well. You no doubt know better than I do, but just in case here's a video, but it does progressively get louder with rpm to about 2000. Running 5w30 molly.

The fuel pump is mechanical, driven by a cam lobe. So I don't think it would be unusual to hear a noise if you put a stethoscope to it

Mine made the same sound day one, freaked me tf out at first but everyone says it’s the Injectors and I’ve never owned a vehicle with direct injection so that makes sense. I’ve had no issues at all with mine so I’m sure you’re good man.

I tried to set the remote microphone of my goPro near the turbo and thought I would have nice stututu for my video. Ended up with exactly the same diesel sound as yours .

I've noticed this car just makes a lot if odd noise lol, just the nature of the beast I guess

Yeah I've always kind of heard it, but sometimes I drive past stuff and hear it all and it makes me have a car hypochondriac moment. Easy yo overthink every little sound for me lol

Lol, mine honestly sounds a little diesel-y at idle. I guess its not that surprising since the B58 has its roots as a diesel engine + big injectors. It has a little clatter to it, but sounds smooth on throttle and WOT. I was a little nervous since it is way louder at idle than my other cars, but have heard others sound the same, so must be normal.

Mine sounds identical. 7k miles. My video doesn't have the same clarity as yours but standing over my engine bay its the same as how yours sounds.
