Wider tire typically looks and performs better but just stating the 285's got the job done. I wanted the cheapest and lightest for a couple runs. I agree 295 would fit best so it's picking between a tad smaller or a tad wider. 305's fit the car and aren't too wide for the wheel so they are the more common size people go with.

So since these tires, the Nitto 555RII's, don't come in a 295 option, I've either got to get the 285's or the 305's. I'm leaning more towards the 285's. My stock front tires are still in great shape so would you recommend me swapping the fronts to a bigger size, perhaps 265/35/19 or will they be fine at 255/35/19? I don't want there to be any kind of odd performance/handling issues, or an odd difference in appearances between the front and rear.

Fine if you're going straight but will push for all eternity on the track. :D

Hmmm.... so if I'm going to be taking corners hard I should upgrade my front tires to 265/35/19s. Well, I don't plan on road course tracking my car but I do like to drive a bit spiritedly on twisty back roads, but I make sure not to push the car further than it can handle.

I dont think 17 fit over the rotors and calipers. 18 I think is smallest you can go.
