Hey,

I'm no expert in this topic but I've been reading a lot of post the last few days here and on some other b58 forums. I would really love to install the

BMS cold air intake with the rubber hose in the original oem airbox with oem heatshield.

I don't expect any performance gains, I'm just a a sucker for the turbo noises and I currently only hear them when the windows are down. I hope this would change with the BMS intake.

But I would not do it if it would actually hurt the performance or even worse like damage the engine by sucking in some dirt etc or by putting too much heat in it if those things are even possible.

The community seems to be torn here. Some say its bad keep it stock other says performance is the same but nice woosh sounds. Are there any new insights ? All my information is quite old at this point. I could only install the BMS due to legal reasons in my country.

Thanks in advance.

edit: i plan to run my car around 490wtq and 480 whp

At best it will: increase turbo noise, MAYBE give you like 5 horsepower, and perform slightly better in IATs, without any major drawbacks.

At worst it might: get extra dirt/contaminants into the air tract, perform notably worse with IATs, and lose around 5-10 horsepower.

What it will most likely do: give you woosh noises and have slightly worse IATs, which won't really be noticeable unless you're doing repeated WOT pulls.

The OEM intake is the best intake for this car, other than the fact that it's quiet and visually boring . MANY people have run aftermarket intakes on these cars and I haven't seen a single issue related to any kind of damage because of it.

Also if you plan to run your car at near 500hp, whatever that modification is, is much more liable to do damage than a different air filter.

It seems like the Burger intake has a good filter, so I wouldn't be too concerned about damage there. Looks like it's an oiled one though so you'd just want to make sure it's re-oiled properly after cleaning it.

Since it has the OEM airbox with no lid it will get hotter for sure. Having the original heat shield still on there helps though, and you could always look at other heat shield options too for the turbo manifold if those will fit.

If that's the only intake option you can have in your region it's not a bad one, you will probably pick up a little power with tuning and the only downside is not being a closed box system so IAT will go up a bit especially when the engine bay is heat soaked. So if the turbo noises are the main goal i'd say go for it.

Appreciate your Input. From @Pizza as well.

Talked with my tuner and he will check if its legal in my country. If so then I will do it. Thx.

If you're concerned about losing power with an aftermarket intake, grab a Verus turbo heat shield and it should prevent your IAT's from getting any hotter than with a stock intake. At worse, you might lose 5-10 HP off higher IAT's due to inadequate heat shielding on some aftermarket intakes.

Otherwise, intake choice should really only be based around looks and sound.

All the data i have seen posted shows a slight increase in performance from an intake.

VM engineering reviewed intakes on the first-generation B58 and concluded that the intake adds 5-10 whp over stock without any drawbacks.

There are some videos out there that show some cold air intake boxes actually result in less power. Do a you tube search.

I put on the 6" MST-V3 intake

Dyno proven to gain 3hp on a bone stock car

Sounds way better than stock

In my testing IATs aren't too far off from ambient, but heat soaks quicker while not moving. So at a track it will probably not hurt power, in stop and go traffic it will. Filter seems to be nice quality but with any after market intake it's probably not going to filter as well as OEM.

497 HP… Wow!!! The MHD stage 2 claims up to 470 HP. Add a catless dp, wagner manifold and the whopping 3 HP gain from the top of the line cold air intake ? & might even get to those 470 numbers or beyond. That’s a lot of gain!

Sound from bms intake is underwhelming. Waste of money imo.
it's a personal preference, some users like a loud intake, others do not.

if the user is looking for a loud intake, there are other options

Agree. I tried it because the BMS website for the product claims "dramatic sound improvement". Increase in sound over stock is minimal at best.
