Hey guys, I feel that the stock brakes on my ‘24 don’t have the aggressive initial bite as I prefer. My comparison is the stock stuff on my ‘20 M4cs which I have owned for nearly four years.

So even though the car is still brand new, I thought I’d ask for recommendations for an easy pad swap that will have a bit more bite. Stock feels a bit soft.

My goal with my Supra is to get it to sort of class up to my M4cs with more brake bite, and equally as stiff and flat for suspension as it as well.

I will be swapping to MSS HAS and setting it really to a maximum of 15-20mm of lowering as I am fine with the chassis dynamics, and I have no desire to slam it. I just want it a bit sharper than it currently is in every way. From feedback on this forum, it seemed that the conclusion is that MSS is the best choice for someone wanting to do springs only and have zero to a light drop.

I also realize I am setting a high bar here having a ‘20 CS which was the final iteration of the F8x generation. Prior to that I had a Focus RS and my car was the east coast R&D car for Mountune USA, so it had literally everything upgraded. So it’s safe to say that after so many years both drivers in my home prefer a really aggressive street car with a strong preference over dynamics and feel over a cushy ride.

In the past I’ve used Hawk HP, EBC and I think Powerstop as well as upgrading rotors, but I just wanted feedback from others that is still relatively current and relevant to my car. I truly have no idea if what’s good for a ‘20 Supra is the same for a ‘24 - no idea of stuff was upgraded along this generation.

Brake dust is a reality and I’m okay with it. I like the idea of getting my feet wet with auto-x and getting my car on a track, but I need training and experience that I don’t have. It’s something I never truly considered in the past due to being much heavier of a person in my youth, but now I take care of myself physically which means I’ll be more physically capable as well.

I also am highly considering PSC2’s but will more likely move my 275’s to the front and go with 295 or 305 in the rear. I want to take a different approach on this car and improve chassis, tires and braking before adding any horsepower. It’s a great car so far, just much softer than my CS, and I’d like to close that gap.

PS, don’t eviscerate me, I am and have been spending portions of my day trying to read through all the brake threads I can find and I’m even doing it right now.

I just didn’t want to run out and go get like a BBK using ZL1 1LE components right off the rip without research.

basically should I toss on Hawk HP Plus or should I jump to the DTC-60, or only really care to go for the DTC-60 after I upgrade to stickier tires?

I always love seeing people looking to get into performance driving. It sounds like you're in the beginning steps and haven't done any yet so money is better spent on seat time before upgrades. Stock pads will not hold you back in autocross. All my local pro Supra drivers who are national competitors run stock pads. For track they're fine to start out with, eat them up first before upgrading.

The general recommendation I've seen in order though is OEM -> Project Mu Club Racers -> CSG C21/C11.

I have Hawk DTC60s right now and I don't like them on the street as there's never enough heat to make them feel good but they should be great on track. I only have them on because I got them free and I'm going to the track next week and my Club racers are on back order for a couple more weeks.

This thread is also great: https://www.supramkv.com/threads/a90-supra-brake-pads-rotors-fluid.16899/

Yup I’m halfway through that thread right now.

I love cars, I love motorcycles, but I learned many years ago that these were not places for an overweight queer woman born in 1982, like at all. In the early aughts I was trained as a Mercedes-AMG technician and left the field by the time I was 24.

I learned to not engage in communities because people are/were awful. I’d just get a little knowledge on what brands are best for various mods and then never come back. I sat on the sidelines and never engaged.

In a nutshell, I’ve lost 100lbs in the past year, gotten fit AF, had lasik, started to finally embrace and not fight my curly hair, and done a million things to better myself (personal care, therapy and a personal trainer).

Right now I’m motivated AF and I want to embrace the stuff that I’ve always been into, but for reasons was hesitant to.

I want to get into car communities again, but above all, I want to get into track racing.

In before Mark (FLtrackdays) comes in with his paragraph-dumping knowledge of track parts, and excessive enthusiasm for the MKV and how hard it punches above its weight. ;)

Then Bryan(Briana) comes in and whips the storm..

Hard to beat Project Mu Club Racers if you plan on tracking the car more than a couple times. Once bedded in, they don’t sound like a dump truck like other track capable pads. Work fine cold on the street as well. Dust way less than anything Hawk of the same level.

2020+ all the same as far as braking.

I have no tolerance for non-inclusive talk. While I can be a pain in the ass here, you will never find any of that BS from me.

There is an amazing inclusive track group here in the NorthEast, MassTuning. I’ve also been to other organization events where people are unaccepting assholes, unfortunately.

Happy to help if I can with any track and performance questions.

I’ve ordered some project mu club racers. Can’t wait to try them! Especially at that price range. Project mu 999s or CSG might be something else you’re interested in if cost isn’t an issue. I definitely don’t mind the Hawk DTC 60/30s on track.

I say try them all and use what you like. Hopefully you’ll be out on track a LOT and get to burn through a bunch. There’s no right or wrong. Depends on your use, affordability & preference.

Never mind. I'm used to replying in the motorsports section lol

I don't think I'd run a track-spec pad on a daily. Up to you, of course, if you are willing to deal with the noise and dust.
These cars tend to handle better at or near stock height.
Lowered looks better, of course, but may drive worse.

Good luck! ????

I can only speak from my experience since you mentioned DTC-60 & HP+. I used to use DTC-60 and it does brake much better than stock. However, it will not brake hard enough that your chest is compressed onto seatbelt and your eyeball is about to pop out like some cars such as ZL1 or performance audi tts I experienced. Not sure if this is what you are looking for because I do not know how M4CS' brake feels like. Also this has a lot to do with tire as well. I used DTC-60 because I was thinking I will switch between track pad/rotor set up and street pad/rotor set up between track days.. however, that only occurred once as you may have imagined, too cumbersome for me. And I was driving around town with squeaking brakes and people who doesn't know a clue about track driving will comment that I need to replace brake pads.. They'd give me a puzzled/confused look when I tell them these are track/race pads. After using it for few times on track, my rotor started to wear out faster. Much faster than stock which can be understandable given this is more abrasive compound. But ultimately, DTC-60 is only available for front. using DTC-60(f) & stock(r), were yielding understeer characteristic which in my opinion, unbalance for my driving. Therefore, I started looking at same compound that is available for both front & rear. So using HP+ was the choice for "happy" medium. It is not super aggressive so this set up will also not give you the feeling you are looking for. Also, I don't know your level of track driving so I cannot comment what you need however, it might be more beneficial to learn to brake with stock or just a bit more aggressive than stock. As I mentioned before, if you are looking for that feeling I previously mentioned, not sure if you will get it with just brake pad change.

Evasive sent me text yesterday. They estimate about 2-3 months for the projuect mu pads to be made again. I opted to get my money back. Incredibly inexpensive! Thus worthy of trying for sure.

As you can see @CafeRacerQueen , lots of different strokes for different folks! I don’t mind a bit of squeal. In certain places, that could be a problem. It’s not where I live. We’re all stupid down here and give each other nice compliments, lol. Seriously though, I’ve only gotten nice comments on the car. Is that race brakes? Do you actually track it? Stuff like that.

I do try and only take it to work on the weekends, being in a parking garage. It tends to set off all the Teslas. Friends have asked me “is that your car that set off my alarm?” and we both crack up.

Back to you! Lots of great options for this car. Depending on your experience and use, you made a good choice with the Supra. You’ve got LOTS of options! I’m down to my last set of Hawk DTC pads. If I can’t get more. I’ll go the mighty CSG route or try Pagid.

Nooooooo………. you’re not stopping Motorsports all together. Why stop commenting? You’ve owned a Supra, you’ve got many track years under your belt, more real track experience the better amigo! As you can see from all the preferences for shoes ?. No right or wrong, more the merrier!! Plus, can’t wait to hear how you like your new track car compared to the Supra ?
20 cents off the mark.

I didn't see where OP is looking for track pads, so I deleted my post because that's what I discussed. It looks like she just wants a better-than-stock pad, for which I haven't run so have no recommendation.
