Can't measure oil - have updated oil pump (WAA03)

Hi,

I have a EU spec 2020 a90 Supra with a build date of 2019 and noticed recently that I can't measure my oil. It gets to 18% and then jumps back to the previous screen where it says Oil level OK but no bar on the right.

I've tried everything from waiting 30 mins, flat surface, letting it cool down etc but keeps stopping at 18-20%.

I know everyone here is going to tell me I need an updated Oil pump but here's the kicker - My car already has the metal WAA03 pump which was confirmed by Toyota today using my VIN number.

It seems that others in the EU with 2020 cars also have the 03 updated metal pump too.

The Toyota tech did say however that my oil level sensor was listed as 89491-waa01 which has since been revised twice to 89491-waa03.

Wondering if it could just be a faulty oil level sensor?

I've checked my oil pressure at idle and WOT (2.5~ bar at idle and 5.5~ bar at WOT) and it's all fine, along with oil temps and car drives totally fine and isn't burning oil (1 quart per 3k miles hard driving).

I'm Stage 2 MHD 91 map with exhaust, dp and intake.

You have a 2020 though, you won't have the updated oil pump is what I'm guessing. It probably shows that you have the updated pump because they've moved towards that moving forward?

I would def not believe a dealer looking up part numbers and cross referencing them to be a source of truth of what is actually in the car.

They said if there was an old part it would have been displayed on their system. Others have also said EU cars already have the updated pump.

Also - my oil pressure doesn't really go up while doing the measuring test which others said is a tell tale sign of an oil pump starting to fail. It stays around the 3-3.3 bar mark

Thirdly - there are no stories of failed pumps over here in UE/UK that I can find. All the forum threads seem to be US cars. No garages I've spoke to over here have ever replaced any.

My father was a parts manager for Lexus for 20+ years before he retired, neither Toyota nor Lexus dealership can tell you exactly what part was put in the engine.

They can take the VIN number and then lookup what the current proper replacement part number is, but that is it. I don't know what bullcrap they are feeding you, but you need to stop eating it.

Totally understand but it would suck if I paid all that money for parts and install just to find out i already have that updated part. Are there any other symptoms or ways I can diagnose this further?

Also does anyone know for sure if the BMW Z4 Oil Pump 11419895359 is the exact same? It's less than half the price than from Toyota here in UK

Are you under warranty? If not maybe get an extended warranty. Wait a few months, Then notice the issue again, and ask for it to be looked at. Let them follow the procedures about what it is or isn't and eventually get in there themselves if that's the actual problem.

I've read the issue is something to do with erratic readings, due to broken parts? You might want to dig into the true problem. If it does actually give erratic readings, maybe you can get a live feed on yours and record it somehow (easier said than done). Then compare those readings to a good pump. Also perhaps easier said than done.

You can do this with Bimmerlink. You can view and log oil pressure. You can also view and log oil level.

Yep as I said I've done all this and it's in line with a perfectly good oil pump.

My cars under warranty but I'm tuned so it's not gonna work out for me I'll have to get any work done by an indie garage.

Yes and no. You said you checked pressure. I wondered about actually comparing a log, the full run charted out along with a "known good" car doing the same check process.

If the normal error here is to have the check stop, but for you it jumps to the end and says it's fine, playing devil's advocate maybe there's not a problem after all. Or a very different one.

Yea good point. If anyone wants to do a bimmerlink log while the car is running the check so I can compare I'd be very grateful!

But essentially the oil pressure doesn't go above 3.4 bar during the log and seems to remain stable until 18% when it goes back to the previous screen.

When driving I already know the pressures are in line with a good car.
