Clutch Slipping on stock A91 MT...

I haven't driven my A91 since I got it in November. It's currently sitting at 8 miles. All this talk makes me wanna double down on my current fleet and sell the Supra.

At the end of the day, it's really a Z4 and if I can't mod it for fun, it's kind of pointless at least for me.

Economy is definitely going in a way so I feel you on that.

Emira orders aren't going to be show until early 24 if that. My CFO has one on order and he just PTS'd a Carrera T as a backup in case the Emira takes longer than anticipated (it will).

Sad to say, the only thing similar in price and fun would be an M2 but the G87 is heinous.

Tough choices to make here.

This is as close as you can get to a Z4 Coupe, so yea it is.

And don't tell me you really believe them when they say they went their "separate ways".

Engineering is always limited by budget. This was a joint venture meaning that each "team" had limited resources to begin with. I won't say it's the same, but I will say that it's more BMW than any Toyota product ever made so take that for what it's worth.

TBH new for new, you'd be correct, at MSRP this car is tough to beat which is why it's still sitting on a battery tender.

I have other M cars to drive. If I want the thrill of that, I have that.

But, all of these early onset issues (which are to expected from first model year examples) are a huge turnoff.

Personally I didn't buy the Supra to be a track car or replace any car. I bought it because I thought it was cool.

Emira isn't happening anytime soon and I'm sure there will be issues with them too being a very low volume brand.

And while I like and prefer the Cayman, you want that car with a stick because it's more fun that way. But a 718 GT4 is more than double the price of a Supra.

So I think the real long winded answer is, hold and hope for improvements or sell and buy again later.

nah, already experienced it once. my next move is either P car or the Emira I ordered. But the way the economy is going I doubt I'll make the transition anytime soon. Would much rather invest into the business and my schooling then a car, as much as I love them, have to be a somewhat responsible adult

The Emira is gorgeous. I love looking at it. But I think it’s a bit of a slightly up slopping/parallel move from a A91-MT to be honest. The AMG engine on later release will help it a bit (great AM support and potential I hear) - but otherwise, eh. Car and driver even rates it below the regular 3.0 Supra (for whatever that’s worth).

I think redesigned cayman 718s (coming in 2024 I believe) will be better step up vs the Emira. The current C8s are also a better deal (though super saturated and no manual).

Just wait for that AM clutch support and enjoy your already amazing car.

I only would get the PDK because of the manuals goofy long first gear.

Well installed the new valved exhaust and while going to film videos the slipping cluch struck again, I can almost do it on command now, if you take off from 1st (not dump the clutch just like 2-3k medium take off, and the floor it at the top of first, shift it into 2nd, it will still be spinning a bit and the second you hit 3rd and it has traction just straight slip. very annoying

ya I was chalking it up to heat soak but the more and more it happens and the way it happens it definitely isn’t. I think it’s just some bad tuning on these cars, and the boost by gear function acting up. Oh well. For anyone wondering why mine is fairly stock, well here ya go lol.

I think the boost by gear tuning is a little funky... I noticed once driving it this week that 2nd gear pull was kinda weak. Been fine otherwise. 3rd gear pulls ridiculously hard and must have much higher boost targets.

I definitely noticed the clutch delay valve effect going 2nd to 3rd, feels like a moment of slip but isn't. Eh, I'm only at 800 miles so haven't seen any true slip.

So I did get it on video but it hard to tell what is happening, the 1-2nd is clearly the car spinning, the second i shift into 3rd, I have 0 acceleration and it just slip, I let off pretty quick but you can hear the 3rd just slowly slip and the car stops accelerating. This is also by far the "hardest" launch I've ever done with this car and just goes to show it is not up for the task

not even 5k miles and still 100% stock outside of the active autowerke catted downpipe, HKS intake, and the catback, nothing that is notably changing the power of this car, and if the few hp I may have gained is the difference between slipping and not then I think that is just unacceptable to build something to such low tolerance. Again as annoying as it may be, if tuned cars with 450-500 hp slip, it is not like Toyota is obligated to build us a car that can handle more than stock, but at this level to have slippage at a mild launch like that on a warmed up car on a street tire... Conti extreme contact 295, just not a good sign

If it’s that repeatable I would definitely go to the dealership and have them check it up properly under warranty. You should be able to walk a tech through on how to replicate it taking away any excuses they try chugging your way.

I already have in writing my complaints since 1k miles, but they were not able to replicate it under their driving, I am gonna take the tech, and do the same damn thing as I did on that video. I want a new clutch lol

I'm hoping it's just a clutch that solves it.

If I have to start beefing up the driveline to hold say 500 whp I'm gonna be mad lol
