Just thought I’d make a separate thread so others can know about this.

A rock lodged in your brake heat shield makes a horrifically loud noise (in my case). So if this grating whining metallic noise that sounds like your dragging a piece of metal happens, have your car checked for this!

Right. My rock—less than one centimeter in size—was wedged in such that I had no real choice other than to have it towed in (that way, no more damage).

I got mine out myself. Did dealer charge to remove it?

I’d like know how to dislodge one myself. The dealer didn’t charge me and I used Toyota care to tow it (no charge).

There’s a video idea for you!

First time I used my finger & reached around back of hub. 2nd I couldn't get it out on side of road & it eventually came out on its own. I have a video post on my Instagram page but don't think I can share it here.

They generally won't do damage and often will work themselves out. Most times it happens to me, it works out on its own within minutes.

I posted the same issue last summer, a week after I bought it new. Dealer removed it, no charge. Hasn't happened again, but it certainly jaded my new car experience for a while.

Normal

Slightly bent metal heat shield on my previous F80 and it never happened again

Supra does it from time to time but not enough for me to take any action

Happened to me the other day with my wife in the car...
I kept driving and explained what I'd read in this thread - she looked seriously skeptical. o_O
Luckily by the next intersection, right before coming to a complete stop, there was the expected 'tink' of it dropping out, and then silence. :goodpost:
