2.9% for 75months with Toyota, no down payment no trade. Will be paying off in 3 years. Financially it would be better to just dump the full value into a mutual fund but I like the peace of mind of having low debit. Being recently divorced I also should stay fairly liquid.

Well I found a 2020 Nocturnal for $48,999 w/9,650 miles

Went through an online app with capital one since I have established payment history with them.
They came back at me with
$4k down
$821 x 75 months @ 9.14%

A little about my credit history.
Fico scores are 685-683-689

Have both revolving and installment payment history, no late payments. But don't have a lot of history, just over 2 years.

10 years ago had a fallout and filed bk, lived liquid and didn't use credit at all up until these last couple years.

I really want the car but I think I'd be better off with getting my credit stronger/better and putting down at least $10k ?

Thoughts? Suggestions?

That's $15k or so in interest over the term of the loan. If you're going to spend that much, you might as well finance a new car for a lower rate, but realistically you definitely should wait until you can get a better rate and a bigger down payment.

Also, with those credit scores you should be able to do WAY better than 9.14%. That's an absolutely bonkers interest rate for an auto loan.

Thanks I appreciate your feedback. Yeah I was thinking the same with the APR
I mean my credit isn't bad but isn't excellent either.

Yeah i think the BK is whats hurting you the most. I'd say build your credit a bit. You can shoot it up easily if you open multiple lines of credit and then make around 200$ worth of purchases on each within the first 6 months and then pay it off immedietly. I shot my credit from 620 to my current 760 score across the board in roughly 6 months.

Remember credit is also available credit vs debt. So if you have a high credit limit but low balances, that can work to help raise your score.

Car was fully loaded with all available options from Toyota except the PPF Hood option. They even tinted the windows :p

Down Payment: 10k
Apr: 2% for 72 months.
Credit Score: 837

I used Capital One Auto. For anyone here trying to see options I recommend using them. You can get pre-approved WITHOUT dinging your credit score. It will give you a good idea what to expect for yourself while you play with numbers.

Best part of it is you can use their APR to negotiate. The dealer didn't want to hit 2% for me, lowest they would give me was 2.5-2.65 range.

Wish I could have paid cash but I stuck most of my money towards a house I bought a couple weeks before picking up the car. Now one of the tenants pays my 1,000$/m car payment for me ??‍♂

The wise decisions of a 20 year old ?
