One thing am counting on is that Toyota will not let this car be the one to put a stain on their reputation as the manufacturer to go to when you need reliability.

I highly doubt it's gonna use something other than Bosch Tricore BMW use on other B58 engines. Realoem shows the same part number as X5.
All Bosch DME's are already tuneable and the files are out there with the tuners.

This is the best leak I can find regarding the B58 technical update. It has the most complete information.

Remember Tada's quote on the club4ag interview regarding the A90 at goodwood "it will be the flagship engine for this car"

The author states that the Supra will have a revised engine by Toyota:

It is also worth mentioning that the Toyota Supra, which is on the same platform as the new BMW Z4, does not use this engine, but its body structure is almost the same as that of the B58TU. It belongs to the new engine that Toyota is involved in optimizing the design based on the B58TU structure

That sounds impressive! I had the same thoughts at the start of their partnership with BMW. Why would Toyota spend so much on a sports car if they would just use a BMW engine, transmission, chassis, etc.? Makes no sense. Same case with the 86/BRZ, though it uses Subaru’s 2.0-liter Boxer-4, Toyota incorporated their D-4S direct injection system. Eventually, expect the same with the Supra. It would have something from Toyota; not just entirely BMW. Especially this would be their halo car, so it should deliver, as enthusiasts are expecting something BIG. It has to be as good or even better than the A80 IMO or else....

What I've read is that the supra will have the exhaust emission scrubbers that Eu requires. The z4 will not in the U.S. hence why the z4 makes more hp.

Does it mean to say the Supra will have less hp than the Z4 just because it will have a particulate filter(just like the Euro version of the Z4)? What about Toyota’s involvement? What did they actually do to modify / differentiate the engineering(engine) of the Supra vs. Z4?

From my research which is all youtube videos and articles. Is that toyota did not design a different exhaust like bmw did for the u.s z4. So with the exhaust filter and different tune it lacks a few hp. Easy to gain back plus some for the supra. And supra is lighter than the z4.
I know toyota did there own engine and suspension mapping/tuning and have heard the z4 and supra are definitely different.

I have spent a lot of time looking at this from different BMW technical articles and part diagrams on RealOEM.

From what we can see, the Supra uses the BMW B58B30M1. This the same 3.0L inline six, however, it has an integrated "headifold" meaning there is not a seperate exhaust manifold. The turbo essentially bolts directly to the head. The U.S. market Z4 uses the BMW B58B30O1 which has a normal manifold.

The headifold is used in EU markets for quicker warm-up times and increased catalytic converter efficiency when starting and cruising under operating temperatures.

There is no indication that the U.S. Supra will have the filter, however, the engine still produces the same amount of power as other markets. We cannot currently say whether or not the Supra will make more or less power than the U.S. market Z4, however, we can say that the hardware changes mean that there are likely differences in their power-making abilities.
