I’ve seen lots of discussion about open intakes vs fully enclosed, and wanted to provide test results. One is with the stock airbox, next with the HKS racing suction (open, not using the new closed box)

Same test method used for both intake tests:
1. Drive car for 15 minutes to get to temperature and watch IATs
2. Let car sit turned off and components get hot under hood.
3. Start car, (intake temps high at this point), and then drive and watch IATs

Basically the results are very similar for both. Max temps, time to cool down when driving, and cruising temps were within the same range from ambient on both. Coolant and oil temps were also in the same range on both, and peak didn’t change.

Both cooled down at the same rate, and peaked around 40 degrees above ambient, and were around 20 degree above when moving. Driving speeds were between 35-45 mph.

first pic is stock, 2nd HKS. HKS was 4 degrees warmer outside when testing.

Nice use of the scientific method. We need more of this with mods.

thanks, hopefully this helps people who are on the fence. The factory intake surprised me with how hot it gets when not moving. Its nice knowing the intake temps are similar between the two.

As for the HKS, it definitely sounds great. Part throttle and WOT both sound different, and I can definitely still hear it over the exhaust. (AA catted downpipe only).

For me basically the HKS looks good, sounds great, and doesn't hurt performance.

hey charger71 thx for all the feed back I wanted to ask you this but I been looking for feed back for someone that has a hks intake for the Supra there review and all. My question is from stock to hks intake I felt a decrease on power and throttle response and acceleration pretty much in short terms it feels like a boat like I am not going anywhere I don’t get it as much as response as I used to any feedback on what that might be or opinion on what you have experienced with this new intake that you installed if it feels like there’s a lag. Because I have felt a huge lag and down crease on power. I only have the intake and and went straight pipe. Down pipe is still original

You got something wrong.I noticed an improvement in throttle slightly and no power loss. SOunds like you have a leak honestly.

I hope I attached the picture and video correctly. I also noticed a slight improvement and love the sound.

Hey guys anyone know if the exrea carbon box does anything? Does it make the temperature cooler and I'm guessing it's not as loud (I don't mind louder)
