Oh trust me, I feel your pain as well. What people are asking for dash panels is ridiculous, let alone other parts for the car. I just bought a complete V160 drivetrain from clutch/flywheel all the way back to rear diff/axles as well as the tach and ECU thrown in for $10K and that's considered a good deal in todays market. I miss the days where you could get a nice 6spd for mid to high 20's LOL
I can’t remember which big name performance shop it was, but one of them purchased almost every GTE cylinder head and Getrag V160 trans in the country at a huge discount from a Toyota dealership, and turned around and sold them for like 3 times their original cost. That Supra tax....

Haha, I'm so glad someone finally asked.

Ill say this, look in unlikely places and ye shall find.
Looking at BMW's diesel lineup isn't really so far fetched is it? :stirthepot: Do they use cast iron or CGI (compact graphite iron... lighter)?

Thanks, does anyone know if BMW still even make iron blocks?
Just to clarify, I asked if the cast iron option (existing block design) was going to be available not as in a new block, but to be re-used in place of the all aluminum B58.

Definitely didn`t expect this.

So, we have the (unofficial) engine block donor for the new Supra: BMW M57 diesel engine.
Makes a lot of sense, specially since it was produced at Magna Steyr in Austria, same plant that is going to build the Z4 and Supra.
It was produced both in iron and aluminium versions, the Supra is getting the good ol` iron block.

Displacement: 2993cc
Bore x Stroke: 84 x 90mm

Not much else can be guessed at this point, since it`ll probably share little to no parts with the diesel engine. Gives me hope of an old school four valve, non-VALVETRONIC head.

These engines put down 400lb-ft@2000 rpms in stock form, and 650lb-ft+ when tuned. The block will probably handle whatever you throw at it.

Curious if the newer BMW straight sixes still suffer from cracked cylinder walls near the top chamfered area :hmm:. This was a known issue with E46’s especially the folks with boosted motors.

Very cool info. If it sucks stock but has that rumored legendary tunability, I'll be okay with that.

I'm not up to date with BMW motors, but hasn't the M57 been phased out and replaced with the aluminium N57?
