no hybrid powertrain for the Supra at this time and higher curb weight figure was suggested as belonging to solely the Z4. Apparently Z4 does have the hybrid tech, but that was all I was told.

Finally I can rest and get back to working on my other project...

Toyota gave the tech to BMW? A 220 pound tech? This M version should be a fantastic beast and something Tada probably oversaw.

can you please find out if the base model is a 4 cylinder? those pics looks the same as the 4 cylinder prototype driving around Europe :/

He told me the base is single turbo. I forgot what liter he said. I'm guessing 4cyl single turbo. Honestly, When he said the lower power one was single turbo I wasn't paying attention. I was just interested in the higher up one

It may be Toyota tech to some degree, but BMW also has their own hybrid tech so I'm not sure. I typically don't ask about the Z4 stuff because frankly I don't really care lol. This information came about because I was asking about the Supra and possible hybrid tech implementation.

Best news ive heard all day! Thank you for confirming this! I absolutely DO NOT want a hybrid anything and a hardcore sports car needs to be lightweight.

I would really like to hear more about this "other project" you are working on A70. The more I hear about "electrifying" anything on a cars conventional mechanical components, the more it sparks my interest...no pun intended. Again, I could care less about hybrid drive-trains, and am really interested in dbw systems, valvetronics, etc... Afterall, it is these types of components that will make tuning these cars a breeze!

Good point, because the MKIV had two turbo's but they were sequential....which meant only one turbo was on boost at any given time. Hence the "Supra Turbo" naming schema. The 3000GT, 300ZX, etc... cars with true twin turbo's (two turbo's on boost at all times), had the "Twin Turbo" naming schema. To your point, I'd be curious to find out if that twin turbo mid-model is a true twin turbo or sequential style? A70, any input on that?

The Supra sequential setup used 2 turbos of the same size. Either the front or both were boosting. They are definitely both boosting quite a bit of the time.

Toyota didn't seem to put a lot of emphasis on the turbo aspect of the A80. There was no turbo badging of any kind on them at launch. A 'turbo' badge was added to the rear on 97-98 North American models, but it was never used on earlier models or any year outside of Canada/USA.

Even in Japan the car had SZ/SZ-R/GZ/RZ/RZ-S naming instead of the Turbo/Twin Turbo/2.5 Twin Turbo (R/GT Limited, etc.) naming from the A70.

The 2JZ has a good description written on the top cover though... Two-Way Twin Turbo.

and FWIW, a GTX3576R is more responsive than the factory sequential set up, and will make 750hp @ 24psi.

Jeff, the MKIV setup wasn’t a true twin turbo setup....regardless of wether or not they were the same size turbo’s, they came on boost at various times, which really isn’t a “true twin turbo.” At low rpm’s you hade one turbo on, higher rpm’s u had both. That’s why many MKIV owners do the “TTC mod” on their cars...to make both turbos come on at the same time. Now, did that make the MKIV any less of a performer....f**k no! Thanks for pointing out the writing on the coilpack cover, as if I don’t see it everyday in my junk bin when im working in my garage.

Hello, This is my first post. My neighbor works for BMW and brings home different cars before production wrapped. The other day I saw what looked like the new Supra on his driveway. A couple of days later I saw him and asked him about it. He confirmed it's the Supra. He also told me that it's also the new Z4. He said both cars are almost identical. The Supra on the driveway still had BMW badges under the hood. The Z4 will only be a convertible compared to the Supra being a coupe. He said he prefers to drive the Supra. It's a small car but very stiff chassis. Because of that he wouldn't recommend it as a daily driver. But, it handles great in the canyons.
The Z4 and Supra are the same with 3 different variances of engine's. From low hp to high hp they are
Forgot the size of the engine . But, low hp is single turbo
Mid level is 3.0L Twin Turbo
High level is 3.0L Twin Turbo with Electronic Assistance (Approx 400hp)
Whether you believe me or not. I don't care. I'm not in the market to buy the Supra. I have a C7 Z06 already.

But, it does sound like a fun car to drive

I’d be curious to see how well a pair of new gen disco potatoes (GT2680R) perform on the MKV’s platform.
