Saw this offered by AutoTuner. The major difference appears to be that you have to physically open your DME for them. And after you send it in, it looks like it can then be bench unlocked.

It also says a dealer update doesn’t affect it.

Anyone have this?

11/14/25 Edit: now they say they don’t need to open the DME, but reserve the right to open it.

Was just reading this. Seems to have some benefits over femto unlock. I will definitely be keeping my eye on this for updates. Although I'm already femto unlocked my wife's m240i could possibly benefit from this.

I tried to tell everyone that a state side unlock was coming in two weeks! You guys didn't believe me! How does it feel huh? All those haters that laughed and made jokes and here it is - coming in just two weeks!

Ummm yeah I knew that. I just meant that we are going to still have a state side unlock in two weeks. Yeah, I wasn't even really talking about Autotuner anyway I just meant...that I know this shop locally that has one almost ready. Yeah. That's it.

Now if one of the stateside tuners were provide an insured unseal/reseal service in addition to just shipping it out, that would be worth paying for

Working in electronics manufacturing, one of my processes was circuit card assemblies/printed wiring boards adhesive bonding.

Definitely recommend using the oven method. 175C or even up to 200C for shorter bursts is good for breaking many adhesive bonds, but not hot enough to reflow/remelt solder. Oven will also more evenly distribute the heat.

But overall, should be very DIY friendly at home.

The amount of effort they were using to pry that up was worrisome... Idk if it's worth it going this route when femto is just a bit more and doesn't require a "DI-WHY" screw surf across the PCB...

Does your source have a "don't have to disassemble" guarantee?

How hard would it be to reverse engineer and have a stateside vendor offer it all?

Their customer support stated that their unlock does not work with BM3 and MDH+.. So I'm wondering what exactly their business model or expectations are here. $250 for an unlock is awesome but requiring a 5k tuning tool is out of the question and makes this not viable.

This whole social influencer bs is so annoying.

BRB, going to show video of my engine bay while I verbally talk about things people have already talked about.
Come with me as we find this cozy little gem in @razorlab garage. It’s a favorite of the locals and with a to die for charcuterie board of spark plugs, nuts, bolts, plethora of 10mm sockets and various types of motor oil.
