Just an update- I heard back from my tuner and they said it was most likely due to cold weather.

I didn't realize that could have an effect, but he said e50 maxes out the fuel system in 70 degree weather and getting colder down to 60 and lower can experience cuts unless the tune is turned down. Following his advise I'm going to try running e45 when it's 70 degrees or below or e40 when colder. Makes more sense why I didn't have this happen until now in the winter (Florida winter lol)
It does kind of make sense, just odd that you don’t hear of it happening to people more often because there’s tons of people on flex fuel that I’ve never heard of having issues like this. Also, are you getting a code for your battery being very discharged (code 030E08)?
I’ve had that code pop up for a while and decided to address it to see if it could have anything to do with my problems. Took the car for a drive today after charging the battery and so far I haven’t had the issue happen again. Not 100% sure it’s solved, but a weak battery in a BMW does make sense it would cause such issues.

Just to add some more info, I used an OBDLink MX+ adapter along with the BimmerLink app to see “Battery current state of charge” which was 41% prior to hooking a CTEK battery charger up for 24+ hours. Afterwards, it is showing 63%. After doing this and clearing all of the codes I had, I have not had the issue again so far.

Man, lots of issues on this forum lately have been tied back to a bad battery!

I noticed the same. I guess these cars are getting to the age now where the batteries are starting to show their age. Mine is a 2020 and has done its fair share of sitting and not being driven sadly.

I literally went outside and looked at the date on my battery after typing my reply: 12/2020. So it’s only a matter of time for me as well.

I haven't had a battery code yet, though I'm wondering when mine will need replacing haha. That's good it the issue didn't repeat so far for you.

I'm pretty new to tuned vehicles and ethanol fueling so hadn't really heard of temperature causing problems either . I imagine on a more conservative e50 tune and maybe catted DP it probably doesn't come up as much. My tuner mentioned if you do a fuel system you can run as much ethanol as you want any time of year/any temp. I'll have to see if I have the issue repeat running e45 or lower while its cool.
