I have a radar detector connected via a mirrortap, and I can confirm it will not shut off after 7 minutes as expected. I've tested this with the keys across the house, checked back after an hour, and attempted some troubleshooting (e.g., turning the wiper lever to "off" rather than "auto" in case it was related to the rain auto-sensing circuit). However, the RD doesn't power down as it should.
Instead, I've had to set my radar detector to turn off automatically after an hour. Additionally, it doesn't power back up upon ignition. It seems that the circuit you're advised to tap into (the two pins on the pink connector plug) is always on....but only for some and not others.
Based on some discussions here, I've seen speculation that those with HUD installations could affect the 7-minute power-down behavior. Does this sound plausible to anyone? Am I on the right track, or is there something else I might be missing?
For now, I can live with the RD power-down-after-1-hour workaround, but I'm curious if anyone has found a way to solve it while still using the MIrrortap.
