Ruined steering wheel (Anyone else with this issue?)

If anyone else has a defective steering wheel, Toyota will replace it under warranty. My wheel started to get marked up with as little as 100 miles on it. I showed it to the sales guy, and he said it was because of the ring on my finger (Bullsh*t) . I went straight to the service manager, and he emailed Toyota headquarters with some pics. Anyways, I'm getting a new wheel.

If I had to pay out of pocket, the wheel was going to be about $800.00 USD.

Are those scuff marks from your right hip/thigh rubbing against the wheel on entry and/or exit?

It's okay to be honest, because my wheel has a nice scuff in that area from the clip of my EDC pocket knife.

There's no way this smooth ring did damage to the steering wheel. The leather has always felt really dry on that wheel.

No disinfectant, just regular soap. The marks all around the circumference of the wheel. The left side is the worst.

My WRX has marks exactly like that on the wheel from the clip on my pocket knife

I was going to say the same about hitting it when getting in or out because I’ve hit my wheel with my right side pocket getting in a few times. I’m super careful now.

You could get a full carbon fiber wheel for that price, in case warranty doesn’t cover it a second time

i have this issue too but in my case I literally don't touch that part (left side) of the steering wheel

I thought it might have been my ring, but when you hold the steering wheel, the ring makes contact at the back of the steering wheel, and not the front. If I had a thumb ring, then maybe I could see that being an issue.

It's from you getting in and out of the car and hitting it. Be more careful. Imagine whining to Toyota to fix your wheel because you damaged it being negligent.
