It's doable, but at my last search it's over $5000 in hardware, modules, and coding to make it work.Y'know, I wonder if we could retrofit an iDrive 7 MGU & Kombi into the Supra.
I've heard of some people doing it. Might be a royal pain in the ass, but maybe the shared Z4 DNA might make it easy?
Obviously would lose the Supra unique animations and such, but... eh?
Maybe a project for when the weather cools down.
Yeah, hardware alone is gonna be expensive, I'm not sure if we'd need much more than this https://ebay.us/m/BTPiPK and https://ebay.us/m/L4Ikg7 ? I'd imagine the gauge cluster would need to be virginized. But the BDC should be shared between the Z4 and Supra. At least I didn't find any evidence that it's not... May require a different HUD? Not sure. It's doable, but at my last search it's over $5000 in hardware, modules, and coding to make it work.
At least with this solution, we might only need a 3d-printed shroud and/or mounting bracket.
Laughs in CarPlay. ?‍iphone.... yuckkkkk
Following this closely! Would love to be able to swap the head unit with a bigger oneI have decided to risk taking a bath on the Xtrons unit.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
im almost at that point of buying an iphone ?. Last iphone i had was an iphone 4. Probably just keep my samsung in the car for monitoring, chaning tune and codingAs far as I can tell, there are only three realistic options:
1. Get an MMI.. along with its non-touch limitations.
2. Install a cheap ass standalone screen.. along with its aesthetic and integration limitations.
3. Buy an iPhone.
Id be more than happy to help design and print an enclosure. I just need enough pictures/measurements/etc. I have a 3d scanner so I should be able to get some geometry of the dash and such.Received the Xtrons unit. Going to be a few weeks before I can start working on this, as car is currently in the shop for some mod-related bodywork.
But I did start disassembly of the unit and we're absolutely going to need to 3D print some sort of enclosure. The screen has its own bezel/case similar to a PC monitor, and that is bolted to a housing for compatibility with the F34 dashboard. That housing contains two PCBs and a couple ribbon cables.
We'll have to stick the PCBs to the back of the display case, then figure out how to build a new trim/shroud that retains the speaker grill while hiding the mess of ribbons and PCBs.
I have not yet opened the display-specific enclosure to check for bolt pattern. That's next step.
I can attest that the Xtrons is a good unit. I had one in my 07 Honda accord coupe and it worked well. Sound quality was good, and the EQ was an awesome feature. It wasn't "Android Auto", but it has it's own operating system based on Android. I think it was Android 10 at the time.I have decided to risk taking a bath on the Xtrons unit.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
Are you for real? Why not actually read the posts you are replying to.Which one did you go with?
Thank you, that's very generous. I'll take you up on that if the project reaches that stage. Very much hoping to send you a message! Hopefully getting my car back in ~10d and can start bolting things together.Id be more than happy to help design and print an enclosure.
