Spare key prices are insane

Bringing this thread back.
Check with your local locksmith. Seems that the key fobs are back in supply.
I just had my replica done, by a local locksmith in Miami. Came home and did it. Took 15 min. It works perfectly.

didn’t need to deal with the Toyota or BMW dealer. Paid $300.

I selected the one in the middle from the three options.

Those are BMW fobs, which AFAIK, have never been a problem to get.

hahah. Didn’t know. I’ve been calling Toyota every month for a year and they’ve been telling me it was around $600-800 and that they didn’t know when they were going to have Fobs and that they needed to send the fob somewhere to be programmed .

I guess these Toyota people are clueless and I believed them

That little circle on your fob is where the BMW logo goes.

Do you have any idea if they need access to the car? Or is having access to a working key enough. I'll look around locally first but if all they need is access to a key I would love to know who copied it so I can get in touch and see if I could arrange shipping them a key to copy.

Needs access to car and they have a little computer and key some info in a tiny screen. But he was able to do it at my home garage.

Paid 700 for my spare key 3 months ago from my local Toyota dealer. And that was with a discount since I know the guy at the parts dept.
