These sound things are all fine and dandy so long as they stop with the whole “motorcycles are different” bullshit.
I've never once seen a fucking harley pulled over for being to "loud" and those fucking things are more obnoxious than any vehicle that is street legal that I've seen no matter what exhaust they're running.

Happy Friday everyone,

Just got pulled over because my car was making "backfire noises and burbles". The officer then explains to me that the car DOES NOT come stock with making any of those noises. I tell him the 2020 Supra's from factory make burbles and backfires. He then proceeds to say, "ive been doing this for a while, they dont buddy". He also says the SPORT MODE button on my car is illegal to use on public roads and only on tracks and that its my responsibility as a car owner to have known that.

Luckily he gave me 3 warnings... 2 for my excessive exhaust noise (burbles/backfires) (i have a remark exhaust, and I was going 30mp so not loud by any means..) and for window tint.. I didnt want to keep arguing about him about the sport mode being for track use only cause he did say that he could have towed my car..
The Officer is definitely not right about Sport Mode, unless you have a law like California in place that specifically states Sport Mode prohibited. Which not sure how they get away with it if its factory. Cali calls Track Mode.

I believe your state prohibits aftermarket exhaust so that's probably why he wasn't buying it.

What. The. Actual. Fuck.
If my vehicle had a stock exhaust, and they cited me from a robot microphone, I'd have a field day in court with this. With factory parameters in place, the burden of proof would surely be on the prosecution, and they can argue with the vehicle manufacturer, who spent millions making sure every regulation was met to sell the vehicle in this market, because it's not like I personally built the car.

Even with aftermarket downpipe or exhaust, due to the infinite level of variables that can change the way sound pressure waves are transmitted, measured, and/or perceived, the burden of proof should still be on them. Unless they want to cover the cost of putting my vehicle in a certified laboratory to "measure" it, they can fuck right off and spend their time and resources actually doing something beneficial to the people upon which they serve.

Unfortunately it's actually quite easy for them to measure exhaust db on vehicles now. If they have a certain number that a vehicle is not supposed to exceed or they will get ticketed for it it's fairly common in a lot of states. I want to say it's like 90db or so in most place? I could be wrong though and 90db is quite loud.

One of the autocross events I went to at the bowling green corvette track had a limit and you'd get a DNF if you exceeded the db limit. They head one little stand set up to measure it in one spot so it seemed pretty lenient, although, I know cops/sheriffs care little about where exactly you're at all will try to get you however they can. Certainly would need proof or a readout though to issue a ticket if they were trying to get someone with that particular thing.

My self and another member stated earlier though that if I ever get pulled over for my car being to loud though I will certainly ask if they're ticketing harleys to though. Hate those damn bikes and the people that ride them already try to make it a point to be as loud as fucking possible and they don't even sound good IMO just obnoxiously fucking loud.

Sounds like such a Karen thing for the cop to do, lol. What man gets upset about burbles? Most guys enjoy a nice sounding car.

I don't know what threshold they're using. My beliefs on this notion are that there's definitely vehicles that are unnecessarily noisy, and that shit gets old real fast. We all know you can build an exhaust one can literally drop a baseball through and still make it quiet enough to be inoffensive to most ears, so there's no need for the racket, especially on anything with under 800hp. If your car is loud as fuck, and you couldn't run 10s or less in the 1/4 mile...you're just a clown.

In my experience, everyone who isn't into cars hates popcorn tunes. To the point where people in other non-car forums visit complain about popcorn tunes.

I suspect they are thinking mostly of modified Focus STs and the like.

I totally agree with that statement. Last place of work I had this older charger pull in cause it was pissing power steering fluid and it wasn't working. It was one of the loudest cars I've ever heard. I asked him what he was running on the car and it was mid 400hp and I immediately hated the person. Car was so loud it actually almost hurt my throat to sit in the car it was THAT loud and to be that underpowered and sound like that was just icing on the cake for me. That's the crap I hate and gives the whole car community a bad name. You have a car built up for the strip that's as fast as it sounds and usually those sound good IMO I like those. This car just didn't sound good to me at all

By the way, a noise level law without a specified distance from the vehicle's exhaust pipe(s), and the engine's rpm level is worthless.

I think 95% of any car or non car people hate the absurd "POP (2 secs later) POP" tunes. The really obnoxiously loud ones. Downshift burbles is what we like.
