Switching to Manual from Auto version?

Would you trade in for the manual version?

I have never owned an auto for myself and I’ll be turning 37 in a month. I thought about going auto with the Supra but ended up placing a deposit for the manual. But when I go out with the wife and kid we are always in her suv anyways. I’ll be daily driving my sti. Less than 9 mile commute to work so any little traffic doesn’t bother me.

Paddles all damn day for me. Before I picked up my ‘21 Supra, I had a Vtec swapped classic Mini that was stripped, caged, straight side pipe exhaust, plastic windows etc as my daily and I think I have PTSD haha. So loud, 1,300lb, and way faster and more fun than the Supra everywhere twisty…

But now I can text while eating my burger and scratching my balls and speeding. I’ll never go back to a manual, but the Supra’s paddles feel so cheap. Definitely going the magnetic route once I get a new wheel.

The majority of people who actually will be taking their stock vs stock car to the track will still probably be at least close to a second or more slower than the auto on a drag track. We will see
Um....no. Less than 1/2 a second at most. Maybe more for people who can't drive a manual transmission, but that's only because driving an automatic takes zero skill, unlike a manual transmission.

The ZF8 isn't anything special. It's not like a dual clutch. Hell, I have a ZF8 in my Jeep.

well the zf is used WIDELY. By that logic I have the same zf8 as Lamborghini urus owners and the majority of rolls Royce models. The zf shifts at ~200 milliseconds. The average dct shifts at around 50 milliseconds. That difference is not perceptible and the cost of the zf vs a dct is significant.

True. Some of us aren't into drag racing but the difference is even more so on a road course. If you take the (fraction of a second gained in shifting) X (number of gear changes made per lap), you get a reasonably substantial time savings.

Had a 2020 M4 Competition with the 6-Speed and it wasn’t the greatest gearbox. I enjoy the ZF and use the paddles to get a little more involved. The paddles are so quick that at almost 50 it is good enough for me.
