Agreed, you have a better chance of BMW giving their halo (S58) engine to Toyota, then Toyota redesigning a whole car for 1-2 years of sales.A targa will never happen for the simple fact there's no way without a major redesign to store the top.
According to the now defunct Pontiac, you don't need to store the top. Just leave it at home.A targa will never happen for the simple fact there's no way without a major redesign to store the top.
Yes absolutely, nothing in the official sports car handbook says there must be storage for a top. Why does everyone think they have to make a place to store the top? Leave it on or use your garage. Just like the S2000, nothing about the hard top was storage convenient and no one complained. They sold a rack in the parts department to put it on or carefully sit it on the garage floor when not in use.According to the now defunct Pontiac, you don't need to store the top. ..a la Solstice!
I actually agree its unlikely but I don't think this is the reason. I mean, if it was, Toyota would never have released the Supra in auto only for the first few years. They would get eviscerated in the court of public opinion and it would be a social media 'influencer' feeding frenzy.
Most marketing is done through social media now a days though. Once something goes viral on there good or bad. Right or wrong it's hard to pull back. Outside of the car world lots of ideas have been back tracked because of the exposure on social medial.I actually agree its unlikely but I don't think this is the reason. If it will sell, and it is cost effective, they will build it.
And anybody who actually pays attention to "influencers" is just someone who is easily influenced and doesn't understand how modern marketing works.
2008/2009 S2000 CR only came with hardtops. It’s the most desired even today. This was only 15 years ago not like it was 50 years ago. If someone can’t store a Targa top then shouldn’t buy one. It’s a limited production sports car not made for people who can’t store a top in the garage. Common sense has to apply - you don’t buy a 2 seater to tote a family around in, don’t buy a Targa if you don’t have the means to store the top. Pretty straight forward as it’s an option not a requirement.Absolutely no major manufacturer, let alone their marketing dept is going to take a gamble on an impractical, non-storable removable roof today. They would get eviscerated in the court of public opinion and it would be a social media 'influencer' feeding frenzy. Not happening no matter how many times you click your heels and wish upon a star.
Comparing it to an S2000 hardtop which is essentially semi-permanent is apples to moonpies..
Toyota could care less if people whine about the 4000 Targa tops as the people complaining didn’t buy. People with no stake have no-weight. I don’t care who whines about the MKV supra it’s a great car and if they are complaining about it they probably didn’t even buy one so it really doesn’t matter if it’s not 100% Toyota etc. The people that own them don’t care if it’s not 100% Toyota and only the people not spending money complain; usually the most. Just look at how much whining went in about a manual, and we really only got that I believe because of the Nissan Z. They say it’s for the fans that requested it but I don’t think that was the driving force in the end. Competition offers it, we better as well. Most marketing is done through social media now a days though. Once something goes viral on there good or bad. Right or wrong it's hard to pull back. i am fine if they make one or not, I’m just pointing out that the decision to make 4000 maybe 5000 Targa tops over the next 2 years won’t be the reason it happens or doesn’t. We all know there’s more people that don’t care about storage to buy all those and more.I wish I may, I wish I might,
Have this wish I wish tonight...
I've owned like a dozen+ Targa or T-top cars and every single one stowed the roof. It's an essential requirement. There's maybe 1 or 2 cars in the last 25 years that didn't have a storage provision.
That is how I assumed it would be - to help it fit in the boot. I'm not sure if the one off version that was built featured a single or dual piece roof though?Has anyone considered them doing a two piece targa top? The hardtop on my Jeep is a targa of sorts, and it has two removable pieces.
