Start coughing up a storm and come in sweaty looking like you're about to pass out, they'll toss you the keys and tell you to test drive it to the hospital.. ???

As for roads and tips:
  • roads with curves and twists -- bonus marks for elevation changes to really get a feel for the brakes
  • highway to feel the acceleration. You'll also feel the very intrusive safety systems kick in a lot so you know what to dial down or turn off.
  • a slow drive through a road in a crowded area with the windows down. This is an eye catching car, and I wouldn't recommend it if you hate attention or talking to other people about it.
  • Sport mode does change the feel a lot by making shifts quicker and more aggressive. It also sharpens the throttle and steering, and stiffens the suspension. It's probably best to do this on a winding road to get best impact.
For getting a solo drive, it's mainly dealership policy, but it won't hurt to ask if you can do a quick solo test drive.

Since you're coming from a Prius, expect the car to actually have a feel to it, especially in the steering, and actually accelerate and brake quickly. Hopefully, it's not sensory overload comparatively, but feeling connected to the road is definitely a plus in my eyes.

The problem with asking for a solo test drive is they (rightfully) assume you're going to do some dumb shit. So getting a solo test drive is totally at their discretion. A talking sales person has never detracted from my test drive experience. I zone them out completely or if you really want to keep them busy just ask them to explain how to get Apple play to work by plugging in their phone as an example ?

As a former car salesperson in my college days, I would consider you low risk. Unless you drift that Prius into the parking lot pumping Icelandic techno.
I pulled up to the dealership in my 99 civic single cam non vtec with a hole in the muffler, listening to Dr. Dre's the chronic and 2 stepping the shit out of it in the parking lot to buy my supra.... they let me do a private test drive and everything went well from there...

The Chronic is one of the most influential albums of our time. For that, I award you a low risk designation.

The best test drive I've ever experienced is when I bought my '09 BMW 135i. Sales guy was the owner's son and my age. His personal car was a Z4 M Coupe. Handed me the keys to the 1er and said "let's go". I followed him driving like a maniac in his Z4 through all the twisty roads around the dealership area. Proved the capability of the car to me.

Drive it in normal mode for a while, then put her in sport, paddles and let her rip, drive it how you are gonna drive it and make sure it works for you, definitely agree go alone, totally different experience, connect your phone, play your music, you have to be able to see yourself doing what you do on a day to day basis in that car and make sure it makes you happy. Then buy the SOB and join the CLUB
