A friend of mine at work has a stock 2008 C6 Z06, now I used to have a C6 Grand sport and always wanted to drive the mighty 427. So me and my other work buddy went in the Z06 and he drove my Supra. Now my buddy who drove with me hates my Supra and thinks it's a chick's car and thinks I messed up selling my roush supercharged mustang for it. So off we go.....right away I can't believe how Slow the Z06 felt until how 4 miles down the road I was able to run thru 3rd and 4th gear until redline which felt better, BUT compared to my Unlocked stage 2 downpipe supra it felt like shit. I told my friend this while we were driving and he thought I was nuts. So he told me to pull over so we could drive the rest of the way in my car. Well we pull over and my buddy driving my supra was like holy shit this thing makes my Z06 feel like shit ?????. So I took my friend in the supra with traction off and he couldn't believe the difference!!!! So I was actually thinking maybe next year I would finally buy a Z06, but now I won't because I'm too used to the instant low down TQ of the supra. I was so damn proud of my lil BMW!!!!

A guy I used to race back in the day, had a C6 zo6 with cam, headers, centrifugal blower and E85. It was pretty wicked, I really liked it. I like the supra B58 too. They both have very technically different engines that I put on a pedestal for different reasons.

C6 Z06:

  • Price: $70,000
  • Engine: 7-liter V8, naturally-aspirated, petrol
  • Transmission: 6-speed manual
  • Horsepower: 505 hp
  • Torque: 470 lb-ft
  • 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph): 4.2 seconds
  • Top speed: 199 mph (320 km/h)
  • Curb weight: 1437 kg (3168 lbs)
My neighbor used to have a C6 Z06. After turning off the electronic nannies, he spun 270 degrees and it scared the heck out of him. He later told me that it has too much horsepower for the street.

Fast-forward many years.....as I was walking my dog, Isaw a C7 Z06 in his driveway with him washing it. I said, "Wait, aren't you the guy who told me your 505 HP Z06 was too fast for the street? This car has 650 HP!"
He replied, "Well, when I went to the dealership to buy a Grand Sport, I noticed that they had a Z06 for only $11,000 more, so I just had to get it!"

....must me nice!

Yea the vettes have that long gearing and flat torque curve, they don't *feel* fast compared but they pack on the mph.
I was so shocked so when I got home I look up dyno charts of C6 Z06 and no wonder it felt so slow. I'm at 500tq by like 2 000 rpm and the tq on the Z06 doesn't hit low 400's tq stock until almost 6 grand.

Now that had to be and absolute beast of a car.

I got jumped by two C6's on the highway the other day. Kept up no problem. They are 200 lbs lighter with a BIT more HP. With a JB4 I bet the Supra is faster. Not to mention their interiors look like Chevy Cavalier quality!

Plain C6 or C6 Z06, big difference. Regular C6 you should probably beat.

Yeah... Low end instant TQ shove and short gearing vs the Corvette's loooong gearing and high revving NA definitely gives a different SOTP experience. Corvette manual gearing is ideal for the track but you need a place you can wind it out on the street to begin to appreciate it.

The C6 ZR1 and C7Z has that instant shove (more so the C7 due to the smaller blower) so they feel more zippy even with the long gearing.

I was looking into a c7 z06 before the Supra. The problem being wit the history of the valve drop issue on the LS7 heads. It's a big job to do and hard to believe someone if they say they had it done already. Receipts mean nothing. Only pulling the head and inspecting it would put my mind at ease.

IMO they are still great cars. With just drag radials they are in the high 10's... as long you can drive stick properly.

You mean C6 Z06? The LS7 valve drop problem is real, unfortunately. However, to fix/upgrade the heads is a relatively easy job in the grand scheme. The LS stuff is like Legos; heads come off quick. A cam swap is a lot more involved but to just R&R heads can be done in a day with simple hand tools.
