To state the obvious: this is not a thread inviting direct head to head comparisons between the Supra and the GR:C. I've owned both and can honestly say they do great things, but different great things.

For those of you out there who had to pick just the Supra or the GR:C to daily, which would you pick?

The GR:C was great for me because I could wind it out, and the high strung engine loved it, reminded me of my RX-7's and RX-8's in a way. The downside to the supra is it just doesn't offer as much feedback stock, and you are likely committing a traffic felony if you try.

Downsides for the GR:C? The trunk space was fairly useless. I'd go as far as to say I could carry more items in the Supra if the GR:C had the back seats up, there is very little room in that hatch. Seats down, sure its not bad.

Performance wise? The engine isn't bad. Normally I'm one of those I hate nvh, but the G16E-GTS has an OEM refined level of NVH to it that I quite like. The bad, is that apparently the engine can't really make more power easily. Granted I wouldn't feel the need to chase massive numbers on a car like that, but even to get to 400-450 which I think would be a sweet spot, you need to open the engine and do valve springs, change the turbo, etc.

Perhaps the worst part is the transmission synchros, people are saying the hubs shear off around 350 ft lbs of torque, and its not far from that stock, though aftermarket hubs are available.

I honestly wouldn't mind owning one again, but the issue I keep running into is it'd take quite a bit of work to get where I feel it would be 'complete.'

My biggest complaint is the B58 can seem rather insulated at times, and no android auto. Other than that I don't really have any complaints.

I would pick the GR86 over the GRC
I've driven a few and its just a bit too slow for me. First gear is short enough to give the impression of torque but even at full throttle in 2nd onwards the car just felt like it wasn't going anywhere. I know it handles well, but for a daily I would want something with a bit more power myself.

I use my GRC manual as my daily and I love it, however people need to have expectation management. It is a car that needs worked to get any enjoyment out of it. Below 3k RPM it has nothing, it needs to be in boost. Even in normal driving you will be downshifting a lot, I like the engagement, but I can see that being a turnoff to some.

Supra is easier to just drive around (commuting) in auto or manual due to the wider powerband. But for me the interior of the Supra is too cramped for me to be a daily. GRC is great but it is a car that you will constantly be engaged while driving, some will love that and some will hate it depending on your daily commute.

On the GRC Intake, Turbo Inlet, Intercooler, Cat-Back and Tuned on Ecutek made the car perfect in my opinion without being overkill. It still needs to rev, but power under boost feels strong and it helps with throttle response throughout.

I hate all the insulation around my B58. It’s that pink fiberglass stuff and makes me really itchy

Same thoughts as the old Corolla: By a Type R instead. 😂

I would pick the GR86 over the GRC
I had the opportunity to drive the 86, Yaris, Corolla and Supra on a track back to back. The Corolla was easily the weakest link being a lot like the Yaris but heavier. While the 86 squealed all the way around the track and was quite fun, it never really felt as alive (or as scary) as the Supra. Interestingly, the Corolla, Yaris and 86 owners there were all pretty much blown away at the B58's sheer torque and power by comparison.

I had a 24' GRC premium for 2 years. It's a car that is good at a lot of things, but not great at one thing. Having 2 other vehicles at the time, it felt like another daily with more power and better handling. It never really felt like a "true" sports car to me, which is why I moved up to the Supra. Also, the GRC takes ALOT more money to make fast. I would be spending more than I paid for my supra to get the same power out of the GRC.

GRC PROS: Fun daily, raw feel, handles good, good fuel economy, great in stock form etc

GRC CONS: Eco box interior quality (lots of squeaks/rattles), takes a lot of $$$ to make power, overheats on track (without solutions), being a hatchback, there still isn't much cargo space, and if you put a loud exhaust on these, it really takes away the 3 cyl sound.

I would own another, but only if it was my daily.

Where do you live? I think that plays a big part in it. I live in Canada so if I had to own just one car, it'd be the GRC just for the fact that it's more daily friendly and will handle winters a lot better.

If you live in a hot, or temperate climate where snow/freezing temps aren't really an issue, the Supra makes a lot more sense there than it otherwise does in an area that gets snow.

Usability wise, unless you're carrying around rear passengers often, the Supra has a good amount of Cargo space. The GRC is killed by the fact that the trunk sits so high because of the battery and rear diff etc being back there. So you really need to fold the seats down to get anything large-ish in there.

Even without doing major engine mods, it's a fair bit cheaper/easier to "un-insulate" the Supra experience than it would be to make the GR-C as fast as even a stock Supra.

Just adding an Intake, Catback and doing some suspension mods like HAS, front lower control arms and replacing the rear knuckle bushings with something like Verkline bushings, and then getting a good alignment would go a long way to making it feel more connected

I found a white Morizo Edition that was available. Tried to sell my Supra to the dealership with it and after about a week of BS back and forth they finally told me they wanted 30k over sticker. lol

That was the last time I explored that option. But hey maybe some other time

I had the GR86 (stock), now owing both the Gen2 GRY aero (stock) + GR Supra 6MT (modded)

I can tell you a look forward to driving the GRY everyday but not the Supra. I might even sell the Supra and get the latest GRY Type 26 instead so I have 2 GRY to play with. The GRY is 2 notches above any Honda Type R (except the NSX Type R) I have driven in the past in terms of chassis dynamics and speed, that makes it a Type RR+ (if there is such a thing). The package of a 300hp engine with a 6MT on a short wheelbase AWD car weighting only 1280kg is what sets it apart from the Supra. In stock form (Gen 2 Aus 300hp version) it is even more exciting to drive than my HKS coilover equipped Supra. The G16E-GTS is so gutsy it makes the stock B58 boring to drive. The suspension is so well sorted. Toyota should have just put 2 x G16E in the Supra, putting out 500hp stock and 600hp on a higher trim version instead.

In terms of tracking, the GRY is much cheaper to run with smaller tyres, less wear on brake pads and tyres because it is much lighter, also there are much more aftermarket parts available. The Supra with my full on Adro kit is still candy to the eye and the straight 6 sounds orgasmic on full song and it might be the last pure ICE Supra so I might still keep it as the Europeans certainly don't or can't make sports car like this anymore. I hope Toyota will prove me wrong and will include a straight 6 ICE or straight 6 ICE + hybrid power unit on the next Supra.

I had an Apex Corolla before the Supra. When the GR Corolla came out, I was so excited, but the interior is taken from the SE corolla which was exactly like my Apex

for $50k, at least upgrade the interior more!!

The GRC is a fun little car, almost bought one for committing. I really didn’t like how much power suffered with 2+ adults. The 3-banger only seemed happy when I was by myself.
