Yeah, that's not OCD mate.. that's an honest, unbiased appraisal of just one of the Supra's many design faults.

And no offense, but your rubber band solution is idiotic. This is a $100,000AUD sports car, not a push bike.

Maybe you just have a high tolerance for poor design.
Wouldn't say it's a design fault. People are just spoiled with creature comforts.

Anyone else getting the irony of people saying the Supra interior is full of design flaws while comparing it to a car with a command center size touch screen?
and I heard it was a track car

I will say, I hated it when I first saw the press photos. I have since seen one in person and I can confirm it actually looks WAY better in person. In black, it looks pretty mean and muscular and kind of looks like it has a little bit of a wide body to it which is cool. And the interior is way nicer than the Supra. I like them both honestly. And that S58 is killer. Wouldn't mind having either one tbh. Just glad we have the option to buy cars like this and with available manual transmissions, no less!

It's a joke man, chill out
It's just such a poor choice on Toyota's part that its infuriating and the biased stupid reasons people give for these sorts of schoolboy errors boggles the mind.

The interior is so small who cares about syncing. Its less than a foot away to change.

Wouldn't say it's a design fault. People are just spoiled with creature comforts.
If it's not a design fault then it's a design choice.. which is infinitely worse. How can anyone defend this idiocy is beyond me. Next you're going to tell me the omission of a boot release button isn't a fault but a clever spartan race car feature. Give me a break.

All cars have questionable design choices but the Supra is riddled with particularly unintuitive, lazy and quite frankly, stupid ones.

They kept the price down and gave me the goodies I wanted. Yes there is wind buffeting, electronic quirks that somehow work themselves out, but didn’t force me into a Tesla screen that all car companies are going to. It feels German and drives like it. Firm and solid ? flexible torque monster engine ? and parts galore…. So it’s easier for us to say over here in the US, she’s a complete bargain under $60k. What’s the other options? I really didn’t want another Mustang ?

Since this is the M2 page and not the poor Nissan Z page, there’s a much better argument here for creature comforts & BMW quality. But 1) price 2) weight - are the two biggest differences. So it’s what you want out of your car. And I get your dilemma mate. I just sit around waiting for my next track day ? In that arena, she’s glorious ?

Yeah I agree. Pound for pound the Supra really can't be beat. Here in Oz, the M2 is much more expensive so I completely understand and accept the interior quality discrepancies. But that's not the issue..

What I can't deal with are flat out poor design choices - in any product.

A lot of the Supra's design faults - yes, they are design faults - come down to pure laziness and just zero care factor. The lack of dual climate control is a great example as it shows a complete disregard for the end user..

The interior is so small who cares about syncing. Its less than a foot away to change.
ALL CAR CLIMATE CONTROL FUNCTIONS ARE THIS DISTANCE. ?

..And this choice Toyota made saved neither weight nor production cost!

It's great that you track your car and probably couldn't care less about some of these faults - but the Supra is a sports car for the road, first and foremost. Is it a track weapon? Sure.. but that's not its raison d'être.

Poor, lazy design should be called out irrespective of where we find it. The excuses and justifications laid out in this thread seem to be fueled by "Toyota is great" and "my purchase is great," for the most part.

I'm relatively happy with my purchase thus far but I'm not going to bullshit myself and pretend that some of the choices made by Toyota aren't plain fucking stupid. ?‍♂

At least they got the MAX AC button right. I hit that sucker as soon as I hop in this time of year. Especially if she’s been sitting outside. And it works well ❄ But I’m with ya. Being that I‘m usually driving alone, it‘s silly to constantly be turning both knobs up or down when I’m finally at non life threatening body temp ?

I don’t think anyone is denying these issues, what we are denying is the level of outrage you seem to have for things that majority of people who bought the Supra call minor. If these things affect your ability to enjoy such an amazing car, you might want to move on to something that can fulfill your comfort requirements.

Would it be nice had Toyota/BMW made this changes from the get go, yes, but they also didn’t offer a manual, and has since rectified that. I would much rather they have spent that time and energy in adding that than a “sync” button for the climate control or wind buffeting.

Fair enough.

Yup. Time will tell.

The manual is a furphy mate. Toyota always planned to sell one.. they just milked the automatic market first. And it worked a treat, for the most part.

You are right, they chose to sell it automatic only, being ridiculed constantly for 3 years, having the car community mostly disappointed in the “new” Supra. All the master plan to sell more automatics. You really believe this?

I do. Japanese companies don't plan a year at a time mate. You really believe the board and shareholders give two shits about being "ridiculed" while they're making hay?

Now that's funny.

Okay bud, I guess you can believe whatever conspiracy you want, it’s the in thing to do in society nowadays. I’ll continue to believe that BMW dictated that they would not foot the bill for a manual they had no intention of using, thus making the decision for Toyota difficult on if they wanted to foot the bill for such an endeavour. So they decided to release it automatic only, got such backlash that shortly after decided they did indeed need to develop a manual for the Supra, not just any manual mind you, one that is superior to BMWs. Thus it took close to 3 years, fiddling with existing BMW manuals until they got it right, but also having to modify the center console (which clearly was developed solely for an automatic) until finally announcing a manual Supra three model years into the lifecycle.

But you keep believing it was all part of a master plan to sell more automatics and they sat on the manual for 3 years to maximize that market.
