Toyota FT-1 concept & A90 Supra design dissected

Do you care if the next Supra has a "corporate image?"

  • No, as long as it looks good, I don't care if the rest of Toyota's line up is designed around it.

  • Yes, the Supra should be completely unique looking even among Toyota's fleet.

  • Don't care as long as the Supra is the "first" to get the design.

The issue I have with Jalopnik's rendering is they used the older mule for their render. Administrator on the other hand used the later mule.

See, im not sure either...
The front bumper and side just dont sit 100% to me. The rear looks awesome though!

I think the front fender still isn't quite right. Seems to high or something. And those little vents on the side of the front bumper throw me off too.

I dunno, I dont hate it but I think i prefer the Jalopnik render more

Jalopnik's rendering is a little to BMWish for my taste.

It does seem a little high. Maybe thats just the extra paddling and angle of the photo :dunno:

Its not that bad on this side profile rendering.

that is because all modern cars are designed and built taller for obvious reasons...look at the headlight placement in relation to the height of the wheelwell, it has been raised for the mule versus the FT1 and that Jalopnik rendering.. The whole car is shorter & taller.

I am hoping the front bumper on the prototype is a fake one just for testing purposes to heavily disguise the planned production version. Once all the fake cladding comes off and production headlight housing go on, the front will be more akin to the FT-1 (with the enclosed nose and two air intake holes ).

One can dream for such a nice surprise from Toyota

Im pretty positive the ''Supra'' will turn out looking almost like this rendering.
Its seems very close to what we've seen being tested (minus the bolt on panels) and it looks the most likley to be production ready.
Not to mention the front end looks way more plausible.

I dig this one
That front end is hideous IMHO. Too many boxy squares.

I like this rendering the best. The nose has a mix of the FTHS and facelift 86. I also hope Toyota keeps the mirrors and pop up wing.

I want it to look like none of these. Toyota/Lexus cares a lot about making cars that not only are reliable and last long but stay modern looking for years to come. This is the big mouth/high hood era and honestly a low point in design with many restrictions that push safety over aesthetics. In the last few years Lexus has begun to lower the hood. With the LC the lower hood uses pistons to pop up in an accident. For the new Supra I see what looks like a lower front profile than what the prototypes with thicker panels reveals and lower than what most renders seem to expect. I hope I am correct, for me a car like this begins and ends with the beauty of the design. So surprise us and make it clean, aggressive and classy.

You can bet your butt that every single aftermarket manufacturer is gonna make some stuff! Look at the FRS, it literally created a resurgence of 90s "Change Everything" aesthetic that we so fondly remember (lol). I'm sure the Supra will get it's fair share.

Going slightly off topic. But I know a lot of you are hoping for the FT1 nose on the front bumper. I'm sure there will be an attempt by an aftermarket company to replicate that look.
