We have discussions going on in multiple threads regarding tuning, cloning, unlocking, etc ECUs and whether or not any of this can be done while still being able to smog a car in California when the time comes, or to sell a vehicle.
Where we are at, so far:
We can clone an ECU and have the spare unlocked to run BM3, etc. We are unclear whether or not the disparity between mileage on the OEM ECU and other areas on the car were mileage is stored, will become a problem.
Another proposed option is to flash a cloned/tuned ECU back to stock before smog. Someone has posted that the CVN does return to normal. It has not been confirmed, however, that it will pass a California smog test. For those of us who have been through all of this before, this seems a bit more risky.

So, I wanted to start this thread to continue the discussion, all in one place, so that we may be able to refer other members to one centralized area in order to find all the information.
Most of this will be theoretical, seeing how nobody has had to smog their cars yet, But at least the discussions can be had until somebody decides to be the guinea pig ?

Does anyone else have anything to add? I know there's a lot of information from the other threads that I haven't gone over, I figured to let the people who know the information better post it up.

I'll continue to watch.
I'm still not convinced this car needs more power.
Maybe once the suspension and aerodynamics are finished.

@kaj - you’re completely stock right? Do you know what spec that Cayman is that you’re ahead of?

Don’t get me wrong. Love the MKV but a 718 GTS should be faster around a track stock vs stock - excluding driver skills.

The car is so fast already at stock power - more power is just more fun honestly and there is that limit to how much you can really use on track. I bumped up to 500whp, the car is just stupid fast on track turn 8 at big willow can go in at 140mph the speeds now are just addicting

Stock other than a 200tw tire, Hawk brake pads, Castrol SRF fluid, and Verus camber plates (with what little good they do on stock struts).
Yeah.. the other car should be faster. Maybe razorlab's car should be slower than a Viper. Point is: they weren't :D

Sideways and all haha. That is a fun downhill turn.
I was sideways EVERY time LOL. I may have had the course record for my class had I stopped horsing around. ?

If I ever get to a point that I can tune the car but go back to stock for smog *OR* I take the car off the street for good, I'll give it a shot. :headbang:
