We have discussions going on in multiple threads regarding tuning, cloning, unlocking, etc ECUs and whether or not any of this can be done while still being able to smog a car in California when the time comes, or to sell a vehicle.
Where we are at, so far:
We can clone an ECU and have the spare unlocked to run BM3, etc. We are unclear whether or not the disparity between mileage on the OEM ECU and other areas on the car were mileage is stored, will become a problem.
Another proposed option is to flash a cloned/tuned ECU back to stock before smog. Someone has posted that the CVN does return to normal. It has not been confirmed, however, that it will pass a California smog test. For those of us who have been through all of this before, this seems a bit more risky.
So, I wanted to start this thread to continue the discussion, all in one place, so that we may be able to refer other members to one centralized area in order to find all the information.
Most of this will be theoretical, seeing how nobody has had to smog their cars yet, But at least the discussions can be had until somebody decides to be the guinea pig ?
Does anyone else have anything to add? I know there's a lot of information from the other threads that I haven't gone over, I figured to let the people who know the information better post it up.
