What did you do to your Supra today?

I’ll have to check (sounds bad I know), just bought the car last month and didn’t expect to find out it was tuned. It was originally sold in early 2020 so I would assume it’s a pre-06/2020 ECU. Even if it just needs an unlock I don’t know who tunned it or what product was used to tune it.

Well I’m thinking of just leaving the ecu locked and installing a JB4 vs taking it to a tuner. I don’t want to hassle with this anytime there is a recall or warranty work is required? From what I’ve read it’s easy just to set to map0 and remove the JB4? Maybe I’m misunderstanding. My first priority is getting a cat’d high flow DP that won’t cause CEL. Then I’ll eval the cost between custom tune and JB4. This is my daily driver and I’m not really interested in changing up the fuel system. Any recommendations?

You’re looking at like $1,500 for a no cel guarantee AA DP. $530 for JB4. And idk, $350+ for a JB4 tune? That’s $2380 for the JB4 route.

It’s $1k or less for a known brand 200 cell catted DP (can buy used since the tune will take care of the CEL, no need worry about a company’s support). So that’s your $500 saved for a ship-off-your-ecu bench unlock (less if you have someone local to bench unlock).

That puts you at $1500, and from there, you have $880 for the tuning platform license (ecutek/MHD/etc.) and tune before paying a premium for a flash tune over JB4.

I LOVE the JB4 as a product, but if you’re out of warranty (or will be powertrain-wise due to a prior flash), I highly recommend you consider the flash tune route.

Thanks to for the brake down, I will certainly consider both routes. I am however a little confused. I thought the JB4 was plug and play the way folks talk about changing maps with an app on their phone?... I didn't realize additional cost to tune once installed.
As for the warranty, no mention of it being void due to this situation. I think the dealer did me a solid? I guess I'll find out if I run into new issues. Either way for now I going back to stock DP. I'll be left with an aftermarket cat-back exhaust and Armaspeed intake. So my ride will make cool sounds but not power or much power over stock.

Tried out the fitment of some new tires:

Front: 265/40/R19
Rear: 285/40/R19

Slightly rubs when past 2/3rds lock.

Gotta run that 35 profile or lower to limit rubbing on 19s

There are ready to go tunes out of the box. There is an option within the software to do a custom tune. You can select one of the out of the box tunes or buy a custom tune from @Jesse DaBears

A must OEM replacement for renaissance red Supras IMO. Fun fact, launch edition Supras that come with the red mirrors are renaissance red color code. Why they didn’t come factory with this option? They’ll usually do it if it’s like 1/2” or more in from the sidewall for liability purposes. If it’s too close to the sidewall, most shops will say no, but if you ask, they’ll likely also know of a local shop that will do


That’s how I found a shop that will mount worn tires (drift spares) and plug tires really close to the sidewall (still held air!).

I purchased tires from Tire Rack which arrived today. So I call Clearwater Toyota to have them mount, balance the tires and perform a 4 wheel alignment.
Service writer quotes me $400 for the alignment(4 hours labor....huh?) $300 for mount and balance.
NOPE! ???
Tire Kingdom... $300 for everything. ?

Polishing the used exhaust I bought ?
Its cleaning up like brand new, just need my buddy to lay a weld where it cracked along the seam (I guess this isn’t uncommon).

Haha! Actually no, they are my wife’s weights. The chair is in cold storage there since the Christmas tree went up in its spot on Halloween night. I live in a mad house

I thought about and my current path is going back to stock DP until I get the AA catted DP. Then I will go with JB4. In the mean time, I like your recent DIY.

Yeah, these are just for daily driving. They don't rub much and where they do is an unimportant area. It's such a slight amount of rubbing that one of the 2 spots has stopped rubbing already (I turn left more than right on the regular, so I'd expect the right turn to stop rubbing in due time). Took a look at the tires and they look completely fine still and the wheel well is really clean in 1 spot

The additional comfort the 40 profile tires provide is too good to go back for daily driving...it's a night and day difference.


TLDR: Great for daily driving, not so great for much else.
