But limiting drinking, taking license away type, easily circumventable (?is that a word) can make matters worse.
Kid will drive without license, steal dads car....
In my part of the world, this would be a massive fine; car impounded for 30 days; a minimum 12 month suspension of licence.. and a court date which will likely result in a criminal conviction. ?ā€ā™‚

Bet you don’t see it too often then ?

I did it as a kid. We had some really desolate roads (areas). Never on a busy road. I probably didn’t think of others but wasn’t suicidal either. Still lucky I didn’t get caught. One of the best deterrent is the kidā€˜s wallet. His insurance rates would be through the roof and daddy definitely should make him pay for it. Consequences make you learn way quicker than having none!

you have never broken the speed limit in your Supra? Or is your brand of speed more righteous?
Ask literally anyone that's driven with me how I drive on the highway lol. @Jesse DaBears? I drive like a fucking grandma. God gave us drag strips for a reason.

My kids (and wife) say the same of me ? I swear you come off a race track and see people with their feet out the window, big gulp in hand, swerving, no clue whatā€˜s around them…. No thanks. Slow defensive driving for me all the way if any other car in sight.

It’s a simple fix, lock the car, and keep both sets of keys in your pocket, or locked up in a safe! Duh! Also, consider birth control ?

My dad let me have a 400whp/2900lb car as a 16 year old. Not once did I get pulled over for speeding. Got to raise your kids right!
Oh please. You never sped ever? Or you never got caught? Are we teaching them not to get caught or not to speed (Cause doesn't matter what you teach, if they want to speed, they will speed...like we did).

16 YEARS OLD,and doing 132 MPH is NOT speeding! It’s RECKLESS DRIVING! And I think he had a passenger too!

I never said I never sped. Definitely never got caught while doing it which was the point. If you are going to speed, dont do it on a main highway where there are a bunch of other people. Find yourself a nice backroad, scope out the area and then have a little fun. Thats called speeding smartly.

Not sure why you would give a kid that young a sports car.

Might as well give your toddler a loaded and charged firearm to play with around the house.

I knew many parents who wanted to make their sons happy in high school by buying them sports bikes - they all lowsided at high speeds around curves and died.

Glad the young kid in the video got to learn his lesson the easy way.
maybe THAT is why they gave them the car…

That would be cruel but wow lol. I'm the video the cop did reference what happened to a kid in a mustang that he stopped. Kinda sad when a parent doesn't take notice of their kids behavior/limits

Unless you install some gps tracking, camera and blood analyzer, you cannot know what your kid does 24/7. Even then you need to be watching that 24/7 recording to know.
There are so many kids that are great at hiding boyfriends, problems, pregnancy, drugs, dildos, speeding tickets, car posters ?, masters of sneaking out, etc..

My mom n dad have been slow drivers from get-go. Me not so much. My parents were never like "don't do drugs, don't go fast, don't get random girls pregnant" but trusted me.

When you have company on board you tend to ease up on throttle. If you don't, then yes, that's a sure way of, "son we gotta talk". Driving and risking yourself vs risking others in the car..
Every decision you take in the car, going fast or not affects others.
Watch https://youtube.com/@WhamBaamTeslacam videos. to see how slow drivers can create massive pile ups.
>> For me, slow inattentive, tried, bored, etc. drivers with heavily dinged, dangling car parts are 1000x more dangerous than speeding but fully alert drivers. Idiots that think their 170" long car can fit in a 100" opening are excluded from this assessment.
Ps. past 40 mph any accident is pretty much flipping a coin.

Decades ago I got involved in a frontal crash. My dad was fully ready to blame me on the count of speeding, but conversely I was doing 5mph and some idiot came onto my lane head on. probably he was doing 25-30. Crumple zone worked its magic, airbags deployed, whole nine yards. This happened in another lifetime with a car maxing out on 130mph but me constantly on the highway going at that very speed maxing the revs for years. <30 yo. Never have I ever endangered anyone or caused a crash. You gotta know how to read the road, know your own limits and the cars. While I don't condone it, not every case and every kid is the same.

Conversely a friend of mine through the same years totaled 4 cars not going as fast, but just straight up not being a good driver. At every crash, he got a better car, better brand, not necessarily faster but that didn't stop him ?

As a parent, you just gotta trust that you've done and doing your parenting and hope for the best. Rest is up to the DNA, friends and whatnot.
