I check mine today it showed at the mid point between min and max with 1,535 miles. I found other past post showing this

link.https://www.bimmerworld.com/BMW-Engine-Oil/

BMW Oil Consumption
BMW engines are designed to consume some oil and there are factory-authorized guidelines for how much is considered normal. In order for the oil to reach critical areas it's normal for some of it to make it's way into the combustion chamber and be burned up with the air/fuel mixture. If your BMW engine is consuming/burning oil, do not panic. It could be normal operation. Side note: Leaks and consumption are not the same thing. Oil leaks may also be a "normal" fact of BMW life but they should still be properly repaired or diagnosed. Below is a table outlining accepted oil consumption for BMW engines (data is from BMW).

BMW Engine CodeNormal Oil Consumption
B-series turbo engines (B46, B58)1 liter per 1,500 miles
N-series 4/6-cylinder turbo engines (N20, N55, etc)1 liter per 1,500 miles
N-series non-turbo engines (N52, N62, etc)1 liter per 1,500 miles
N-series V8/V12 turbo engines (N63, N74, etc)1 liter per 750 miles
M-series non-turbo engines (M54, M52, etc)1 liter per 750 miles
S-series Motorsport engines (S54, S55, S65, etc)2.5 liters per 1,000 miles

Engine Break-in. Oil consumption will be higher in the initial life of an engine. This is known as the break-in period. All of the moving parts have not yet seated in their final positions and gaps and clearances may be greater than normal. The break-in period varies by engine but BMW advises not to be concerned with oil consumption in the first 10,000 miles. Break-in times may be less depending on use and care.
Hi... apologies if Iā€™ve overlooked any reply to my upcoming question, but is the indicated oil consumption based on any particular viscosity.

Am of the ideology that low viscosity oils based on climate regions would be a factor of consideration. Living in temperate climates, I noted running 0w40 was burning a tad more than when I informed the dealer to run 5w40/5w50 but it may be just me.

Will check once my Supra is on the road and will monitor during the break in period.

Hard to tell if I have the issue or not as I got the low oil notification after 5k miles on factory oil.

If my engine is deemed a dud and needs a replacement Iā€™m just gonna go the lemon law route, why the fuck would I want a heart transplant in a performance car with <10k miles on it...
I don't think that's how the lemon law works...the manufacturer chooses the route of repair...
Unfortunately no matter what route it is it's gonna be a drawn out process...

Officially got my second low oil warning tonight...
Less than 700 miles between quarts...

Anyone saying this is normal don't know what they're talking about...

Really gotta find time to get to the dealer?

Steve

So I drove my car today about 20 mins...when I got home i check the oil level...
Now it says I'm 3/4 to the full mark...
I have not added any oil since i got the low oil warning roughly 25 miles ago....
WTH...faulty sender?
Really strange...

I've seen this posted a few times. It's certainly possible there is a software glitch reporting false levels. Of course I'm not dismissing other issues are in play, but a faulty sensor/software certainly doesn't help.

I think there is a little error margin on that oil level sensor. Also do you check the oil in the same parking spot every time?

Yes checked at the foot of my driveway.. level ground each time...

I'm sure there's a margin but 3/4 of a qt seems like a big margin?

I'll see what Toyota has to say on Thursday...

Just about 2,000 miles.
About 6 launches, lots of high revving for the pops n bangs, 42 complete laps of Laguna Seca (top speed of 125mph), and oil has been reading full (been checking every couple hundred miles).

Date on the door sill says 12/20.

It will look fine for the first 1500-2500 miles, folks, then after that it's going to start burning at about a quart every 1000-1500. You will be positive and optimistic through at least the first 2500 miles.

Damn it...you just shattered my dreams.

I will enjoy the no oil burning for another 500 miles. ?

Nearly 1500 miles and the oil level is still at max. Been bashing on it hard after the first 600 miles cause I couldn't wait for the entire break-in.

I'm hoping this isn't the case though

I checked my oil at around 3,800kms -Full, then at 4,300kms -down 1/4 quart, 4,850kms-down 1/2 quart. The oil indicator bounced between around a few times. Sometimes it would show 1/4 low, and the next day 1/2 low. I found that the oil level would be higher if I left the car idling for about 5-10 minutes. (After I got back from a 30+ minute drive) If I was driving it, and immediately checked the oil without letting it idle for 5-10 minutes, the oil level was always lower. Seems weird. Maybe some of the oil settles down in the bottom of the pan when the car is resting for a few minutes. Any input from you owners? Thanks.

I remember when I was about to hit 3600 miles on the car and thought I was in the clear... Then the very next day my car came up with the issue.

For those going down the lemon law route, make sure to read your state law. Every state varies. Try to go through Toyota's dispute resolution program. If they fail to give you a reasonable answer, then either go through the BBB or get a private attorney. Make sure to document everything and include date stamps. Any time the car goes into the shop document it. I had to do this with a 2013 Genesis 3.8 with its crappy manual transmission.

In NC you can pursue the lemon law 24 months to 24,000 miles. Whichever comes first. If the documentation shows everything happened within that time frame, then you're still fine if you go over the time/mileage. Some states also protect people who have a lease.

DO NOT do any work on the car yourself. Don't even tell thenm that you filled the car up with oil. They will use that against you.

As a matter of fact, if you're on here posting about topping off your oil I'd delete/edit the post right now. They will 100% be on this site if you start taking legal actions. Hyundai did it to me.

You can also use this thread as a means of justification for your pursuit of the lemon law when gathering evidence.
