Since I've lowered my car on H&R and added spacers I've gotten even more compliments, this time from both men and women whereas It was typically just dudes. It does look 10 times better without the massive fender gap.

My g/f is the owner and primary driver and gets people looking all the time. I've seen kids hang their heads out the window and nearly snap their necks lol.

The only hate I witnessed was when I posted on the "other" Supra forum....man that is an angry bunch of MK4 owners over there.

I made one post just asking questions and got nothing but negative replies "Don't buy, it's a POS", "Oil problems already", etc.

Luckily I found this forum!

Even as a non-owner I find the toxicity of that forum absolutely infuriating. I’m glad this forum exists so there can be some civil discussions about this particular car.

It is really disappointing. Were the mk3 owners such shitheads when the mk4 came out, or is this case unique because it’s been 20 years?

I’ve had a motorcycle cop pull to the side of me at a light to ask me how I like the car and how fast I’ve gotten it to. Didn’t fall for their trick, I said I was still breaking it in. He took off and gave me a thumbs up!

most hate has been from keyboard commandos hiding behind their screen

Virtually guaranteed to not be the case... for a variety of reasons:
  • Being an unmitigated asshole to strangers only really got popular with the advent of social media (forums and BBSes being the precursor). The behavior, naturally, has been around forever - but people used to have a bit of shame about it usually.
  • I've never in my life encountered someone that thought the MK3 was better looking or more anything for that matter. I think most MK3 owners enjoyed what they had and all that could afford to upgraded as soon as they could.
  • Despite how ridiculous it is... the majority of the hate comes from non-owners and F&F fanboys. And I place 70% of the toxic MK4 attitude on this group actually.
Personally I use that as a convenient filter for saving time... if someone drops a brand, engine, or model of a different car within the first 5 minutes - I just ignore their existence and move on. At least in a "competition" context.

I find that almost all real car enthusiasts couldn't care less about brand, price, or even most performance numbers... they want to know how well/fun it drives. I've had great conversations with diehard Mustang, Corvette, and Challenger drivers - yet try to post something about a MKV on one of those forums and you're likely to think the MK4 guys are tame and hospitable! :p

I've had the car for a year now and have received nothing but positive things from people until it finally happened this weekend....
A 10 year old on a bicycle rode by and said "iS tHaT a BmW?!"
Looks like I'm gonna have to sell it. :dunno:

Some old lady stopped me and asked where I worked to have such a nice looking car. It was weird but I’ll take it. Another few random/ funny instances were at a bank and gas station.

Bank, I was in the drive thru talking to the lady about a deposit and when she left to get the money a guy came over the intercom and asked about my Supra.
Gas Station, it was late and I was pumpin and out of nowhere a lady comes over the speaker and asked about the Supra and started telling me about how her daughter wrecked her Celica years ago. Luckily it was only one other car there, it was so awkward.

How much does it normally cost to get a car lowered? I was just looking at the gap today lol

Same experience here in Sweden. 99% positive feedback and a lot of young people with their baseball caps on backwards wanting to race you.

Labor rate x hours. The shop I took it to initially quoted me $400 thinking it would take 4 hours, they got it done in an hour and 45 minutes.

99.99% of my experience has been positive -- I've had people complimenting that car in all sorts of scenarios -- drive-thrus, gas stations, pulled up at stop lights. I get looks from most imported cars (Evos, R35 GTRs, Ferraris, Mercs, Porsches) and they all love it.

The only hate this car gets is online from keyboard warriors and from those who would probably go and hide in a corner if you counter their "nice BMW" with "what do you drive?"

I've also felt a general sense of apathy from muscle car owners, don't know why.
