How many times does A70 have to say the mule weighs in at 2900 pounds??? 1318kg for anyone that uses the correct units :p

A non turbo would weigh less than the turbo - and the mules are turbina.

That said.... An N/A six (which i still think is unlikely in this emissions times) with an auto would suck. N/A needs manual, especially with a glorious NA six.
How about NA DCT?

I still think ew, but again, that is me. I have a thing for NA I6s and they belong with a dirty old manual. I guess because they're both a thing of the past... :p

Tada firmly said I-6 and FR, but really, I think he's gonna use a turbo four for 4 reasons (haha).
1. Emissions regulations.
2. Performance targets.
3. At least a bit of tuneability.
4. Each car has that one quirk, amirite? It would basically be a facelifted 2018 Supra MkIV if not for some difference.

Sure, but anything is possible for speculation at this point.

Well we know the motor is sourced from BMW. Most definitely a B58 I6 so specs are pretty much already confirmed there on power output for initial release. We know it's a modular platform with the inline 4 turbo so we can put money that BMW 4 turbo is the base motor...specs there basically known

Some of the speculation here is funny it's pretty obvious what 80% of this car is since it's based off of current BMW modular platforms. Weight is the only major unknown factor and BMW doesn't put DCTs in non M cars aside from there short IS specs

Yeah, I read 340hp NA/3500lbs and was just like lolwut...
You did say that Toyota might haev added some things that might make it heaver than 2900 lbs.

So, I figured the higher trim would have trimmed the fat by a lot.

Also, Toyota might have modded the engine to make it something entirely its own.

Highly unlikely, this relationship is almost no different then what we saw with Subaru. Most likely 90% BMW chassis if not completely identical to the Z4 chassis

I forgot what I've read but I recall Tada or an insider saying the engine is completely different. Sure, the base is the same but the mods, the bearings and rods are completely different for tuning purposes.

Everything is pointing this relationship to be similar, but with a clear line for how much parts are shared between them.

aren't you contradicting yourself? You acknowledge that this is like the GT86 project where Toyota contributed to the FA20 top end design, so wouldn't this be the same concept? Think it would disappoint a lot of Toyota folks if there was absolutely no development from their side..

Sort of yes, but I doubt anything toyota is contributing is going to improve performance specs and most likely quality gate controls on the current trim levels we have heard about.

when Toyota said they wanted their car to be a pure performance car while the z4 will be the luxury coupe, I think there will be a stark differennce in horsepower and torque.

I feel The Z4 will be priced higher with the same torque and horsepower but with fare more refinement and items making it worth the price over the harsher, tougher ride for Toyota.

Unless there is some unknown trim level that has not been announced or a trim spec to come future, which is possible. There has been no signs of some toyota developed motor in the works yet. So yes there could be some unique motor out there but it won't be at release based off what has been gathered. BMW already spoke on the motors on the Z4 and Toyota already said the underpinnings are BMW.

I think not, I think it's just noise to differentiate the coupe from the convertible and therefore a potential slight weight advantage. Motor specs identical unless they both individually develop their own higher performance trim level.
