new info:

the manual is being evaluated but will not be available on the launch model... reading into this, I think it will be an option later on.
I'm really hoping that if the manual model is made into production later on, that the sales show that it was desired. There would be nothing worse than having gone through all this trouble for the marketing team to pull up the sales number showing that the manual version was not worth being produced. Given the information we have now (Sub 3000 lbs with north of 400 hp though, a manual version of this car is going to be AWESOME!!!!!) Can't wait :spaz:

Im more concerned with the durability of the manual trans more than the idea of it being available. If we get a worthy successor to the legendary V160/161.....Toyota, take my money now!

Can we chance the background of the forum to be the one, the only, Akio Toyoda?

I heard "still considered" a little while back but I chalked it up to just letting me down easy

I still think it's possible it will never come, but at least it made enough of an impact to warrant consideration and commentary behind the scenes.

my worry is that Tada-san is now retired and is only being kept on to finish this car. once he's gone, I don't have much hope...

We watched the life of him sap away the more Toyota said no manual.

He fought the good fight, but only so much a car enthusiast can take before they fall apart

he's not doing so well these days, after the FRS/BRZ and now this car... his hair is all gray, he has a bad hip and limps, and he gets tired fairly easy and has to rest...

he's only 60 but his body is telling him to retire completely instead of on paper.

I figured. He looked great when he made the 86, but god damn I never saw such a decline in appearance. I know that'I'm just glad that if this car ends up as another victory lap for toyota, he's going to get esteem and credit like a legend. The royalties between him and Akio should be equal for making a beast.

They'll probably tell him to work on whatever the third car in the lineup is supposed to be, but at this point, I'm not sure if he'll do it. It all depends on how the MKV ends up, I guess.

That being said, Tada-San is smart in that he has a lot of young engineers under him. He's building up his team so that they can carry on with similar vision once he's retired. Tada-San was lucky to be able to work under greats like Katayama-San, but Toyota had Tada-San making vans and breadboxes for too long and he was basically ready to retire by the time the 86 project was ramping up. Either way, there's a lot of brilliant minds at the company, so I'm optimistic about a post-Tada Toyota sports car division.

I also hope the sales show a manual is wanted by many; however, there will be a good amount of people who would prefer the manual but will buy the auto before the manual is available, skewing the numbers a bit. I am the type that will wait for the manual but not all will wait.

One of my good friends just traded his 6mt Porsche for a PDK Porsche today, I never thought I'd see the day he gave up the manual, but he just admitted the PDK is better in every way. I agreed to disagree. Long live the manual transmission!!!

I dont think all hope is lost, especially given how awesome the junior engineers I know are, but it concerns me that his vision will be distorted. thankfully Akio will still be around though.

I can't imagine working under the engineer for the Supra and watch for twenty plus years of making minivans and trucks, wondering when or ever your shot of doing something you love will happen.

He msut have went back in time when Akio gave him the reins to do what he needed for a 86.
