I posted in the other thread too but mine is now going on week 4 with no eta on when the part will even ship to the dealer. I got Toyota corporate involved saying to start making my car payments for me and that seemed to get them more interested.

2021 untunable

Oh but I have a Nissan versa as a rental!!
What the …

man i feel u. Been there. It took a lil bit more than four weeks before mine got fixed so it’s almost there for you!!! They won’t have an eta. The ecu just shows up on their doorstep, so you wont know until you got that phone call to tell u it’s fixed. Hang in there!

I got my recall done today. No issues. Just gotta make sure the idiot hooks up a tender. I made it very clear to the service manager to make sure they did. I’m not going to lie I love having the full screen CarPlay.

Caveat this by letting you know another dealership did brick a launch edition I previously owned. They ended up buying it back from me after they had it for two weeks.

Sorry to hear people having this issue. My g/f's '21 was done in a few hours with no issue.

My X3MC had previously had a recall software update (not this one) and it took them a few days to get it done but no issues either. I'm bringing it in again to see if I can get the ISTEP update (which adds full screen CarPlay via Bimmercode) so hopefully I won't have an issue.

I wonder if it would be good practice to hook your Supra up to a battery charger before you bring it in to make sure it is full charge just in case they forget to hook it up?

I've gotten into the habit of charging our vehicles every 3-4 months due to low usage and short trips - takes a full day at 15 amps (last time initial charge was 12.4v; topped off at 12.66v)

U may be right, but I did buy it from a TOYOTA dealer, not a BMW dealer ?

They updated me today saying the part is on national backorder and there's just no ETA whatsoever. I'm not sure what to do at this point. Does anyone know how to go about getting them to buy back the vehicle? Or to have them cover the monthly car payments?

Monday will be 30 days.

Sorry to hear that Brother.
You can call toyota corporate, customer service, and ask specifically for a buy back. They will say bunch of bs like have to look into your state’s lemon law n stuff, but yea it will also take a while. You can do this while you wait on the ecu.

maybe there’s another way to have the dealership buy it back, may need to talk to the dealership. I didnt. We dont talk anymore.

I have mine on a ctek charger for the winter and plan on getting the recall done in the spring. I am thinking about being my ctek tender with me to let them use so I know it is done right. Good idea or let them use their own?

Update:

Got a surprise call that the car was all done - about 6 weeks total. They told me they used a charger while doing the recall and they always use a charger when flashing software. So now I don't know why it was bricked during the flash. Good luck to anyone else that goes through this.

Congrats man! Yea my wait was about 5 weeks, similar time.

My dealer told me they “did everything by the book” too. So it is still a mystery why it is happening.

Yeah really strange, they had many more Supras come in for the recall after mine with zero issues. Just one of those weird scenarios we'll probably never know why it happened. Glad to be out of the rental car though that's for sure

I think the dealer should be using a PSU for this coding, not a trickle charger.

I had my 2020 Premium done yesterday. I took my battery tender and the Supra tech used it. He did have to disconnect my dash cam and its parking-mode battery. Recall was done in two hours without issues. They told me they had a car last week that ended up with a fried ECU though they‘ve done others without problems.

Pops and crackles are definitely and noticeably reduced and so aurally the car feels less fun than it used to be. After recoding all my customization with Bimmercode, the car seems the same as before.
