Registration fees - what state has it the worst?

I finally got my first registration renewal bill in the mail today. About what I expected. Seeing that the fees (at least here in ca) have nothing to do with credit, driving record or being male or female, I am curious to see what states are worse.

So ya, mine ended up at $602 for one year. Who has that beat? To make me feel a bit better, please post up if you have other yearly fees like an inspection or smog as I don't have those.

Don't remember mine right now, but in MI, we pay extra for personalized plates and park access. I think my personalized w/o park was close to $300. Wanna say 265.

I think I paid 670 for CA last year with a personalized plate. My other car is right around 1k.

Wyoming has high plate cost. It drops every year and stops after 6 years...first year was around 1100. I just paid for this year and it was 774.

I can't remember exactly but Nevada has the same deal as Wyoming. I think I paid around $1k for the first year and then it goes down every year. Also, I have custom plates which cost an additional $20 a year.

Here in Wisconsin it’s $85 across the board, regardless of vehicle value. I think the worst is Virginia as far as car fees.

I paid about $680 to renew for a custom specialty plate in WA.

I haven’t had to renew the Supra yet, but my WRX was about $750 after the first year. I’m guessing that’ll put the Supra at about $1100. That’s in Colorado, no special plates or anything.

I don't honestly remember, I think it's like $150 or $160 for custom tags in Illinois. I live in Chicago so I need a city sticker too, I think that's like $250 or something.

I’m surprised at these fees. I haven’t had this car long enough but personalized plates in VA are $10 a year and registration for a <4k lb car is $30.75. The bulk of cost (which is bullshit) is personal property tax in my county which was ~$600.
