I regularly put in a "few" gallons to add some more spice to the pops and bangs, and the car can run on e25 even with the stock tune. I usually never add more than 3 gallons unless it's a special occasion where I change JB4 maps...
The car is tuned for premium, 91 or 93 octane, from the factory. Putting a couple of gallons of E85 in the fuel would only really serve to raise the octane level to a point that the factory tune could take advantage of.
So does it add any performance gains at all, even minor? Or just more pops and bangs
Thank you! So race fuel would be no good then? So if going to drag strip, put a couple of gallons of e85 in and it would be OK and "possibly" get a couple more ponies out of it
Performance only noticeable when I actually change maps on JB4. Higher E content won’t do anything for you on stock tune. I did notice it was slightly cheaper than a full tank of 93, and on occasions where I was driving normal this could result in more savings.
If the factory tune isn't good for it, then no. You're doing yourself no good if your ECU tune can't take advantage of the octane rating.

Who knows… bFlash testing their unlock right now. No sign it becomes domestic just yet as they are requiring the Mercedes MG1 units to go to their office in Belgium. But very promising as you can now run full capabilities of any of the modern tuning chip/software without the need for ECU cloning

yes that is the idea. bFlash annoucned this service for the mercedes MG1s already and another fourm member has spoken openly about testing with it.
Zack is right…however, in my case, with a Payn tune for 93, what I see while logging is that a 5 to 1 ratio of 93 to E85 results in 0 knock retard, whereas running 93 Shell V Power alone results in pulling timing of minus 2 to minus 3.5. So, by getting my KR to 0, I pick up somewhere between 1 and 2 hp on WOT. It is what it is. And engine runs cooler.
Just to clarify a bit further, a reason why some may add a bit of E85 and fill the rest up with pump fuel is because some states (west coast) only allow 91 octane at the pump. The idea is to bring it around 93 octane, which is what the power rating from the manufacturer is based on.
