I have the same feelings like most of you here. If this car was made by Toyota, I wouldn't think twice about buying. The fact BMW is making this car, I really don't care too much (hello reliability out the window). I don't have time to deal with dealership visits, etc. For example, when I had my new Tacoma which was offered with free maintenance for 2 years (oil change, etc), I never once visited the dealership. I changed my own oil (yes, I like doing those my own).

I once owned a Honda Passport and it was a badge slapped on by Honda...
As a BMW owner I understand your concerns but B58s are reliable as it is and have been making continuous improvements since the N54 time-bomb was released. I also think it is safe to say that Toyota has a heavy hand on making sure this car lives up to their reliability standards since they have been developing and testing this car for years. Just like the Subaru project, they will make the necessary improvements to make it reliable which shows in how the BRZ is most reliable car in Subaru's lineup.

I think several folks are still hung up on "BMW involvement" on what I'm commenting. Let me be clear about this please, and I highly suggest re-reading my previous posts:

I knew about BMW's involvement with Toyota when it was first announced...ya know, when all four big wigs from BMW and Toyota took that cheesy picture together many years ago. I have ZERO problems with BMW being a partner in the development of a platform. Co-development is actually a right move for alot of car companies and businesses in general.

What concerns me, is what the partnership consists of and what sub-platforms were used to heavily influence the overall product. For example, we all heard Toyota and BMW were working on a new sports car platform. Toyota is advertising a super capable, Nurburgring-worthy, halo car....yet, they decided to build it alongside a Z4. Forget that it's a BMW....the fact that a Z4 has historically not been known to be a high-end sports car says alot about what the MKV Supra may end up being. Get it now??? This is not about BMW as a company (I think we have all been over that)....this is about what Toyota's definition of "Halo" or "Flagship" sports car means nowadays when it's heavily influenced by BMW's entry level roadster.

BMW probably couldn't care about the car and was going to do it for fun at the start. They believed they were the superior manufacturer.

Then they got destroyed on the Spa by prototype models of the Supra. By ten seconds or more, unsure. The Z4 was nothing special to BMW, just a coupe segment for the retired banktellers you are imagining. Then BMWl realized they're gonna have to try harder to keep up with the inferior brand and receiving help from Tada.

Akio toyoda is the CEO of toyota and Lexus. He's signing off on the RC, LC, LCF and RCF and 86. I would imagine for the Supra, he's not going to disgrace the Supra name with weak Z4 parts. He's gonna be sure whatever is entering that body is gonna be worthy of a Toyota name and even moreso with the tag of the Supra. Also, since they are using BMW parts, it will be shared with BMW to show what Toyota did on the engineering aspect so BMW can test it themselves and see the different approach.

This might be the first Z4 ever that can rival the Porsche Boxster because of Toyota pushing BMW to make it a car worthy of its hefty price tag. Publications that test drove the prototype a few months ago is stunned by the handling and feel from the new Z4 that they can confidently say that Porsche (caymans) should watch their backs, Z4 is about to pass them if they don't keep improving.

It's like how the BRZ is the most reliable car in Subaru's lineup because of Toyota's involvement despite the parts being purely Subaru or 95 percent more or less.

Or I can be wrong and the car is flop. The fun of rumors right?

Haha it’s funny there’s guys over on bmw forums saying how this isn’t a z4, it’s a supra roadster. And guys here are saying the opposite
So many people get self-absorbed in things that don't matter. Don't even get me started on people who say "we" when referring to the actions of their favorite sports team

"Halo". :stirthepot:.... Think of Toyota as a brand. Aside from the Land Cruiser, how much is Toyota's most expensive vehicle? I think Toyota is very well aware what killed the Supra the last time around, and have built accordingly. My bet is that Toyota would have figured the market penetration they would like to achieve to attain the desired marketing effect of this car, and put their best foot forward with what is economically viable for this time period. Toyota pretty much marches to the beat of their own drum. Lest you forget though, that in the pipeline there is a very limited, hyper car spec'd hyper car priced contender. Would it have made you feel better if they called that a Supra?

Do you grasp the concept that the Z4 has been elevated to another level by being the platform mate of the Supra? It's not that the Z4 has "dragged it down". Why do you take it so personal and are seemingly offended... do you even own a Supra?

Toyota is trying to enhance the emotion of driving, not play the specs and numbers game. They want that to reach as many people as possible.

Only time will tell....

Btw, sucks that BMW fans already saw a sneak peak of the Z4 (uncovered) before Supra fans saw the MKV Supra (uncovered).

It was stated that BMW would be unveiling the car first and I assumed the person forking over the parts for the other brand is the one with the bargaining power in the relationship don't you think?

At least when the Z4 is shown first, people will flock and drop a deposit already. But would give a healthy lead if this Supra we're being led to believe is a real thing and will blow the heads off the competition.

Does it matter if I own a Supra or not to comprehend a potentially inferior product to what is supposed to be a successor car??? Doesn't require one to own a Supra to be passionate about legendary cars. I own (and have owned) more Nissan sports cars than Toyota sports cars....and I have expressed my concerns and opinions on Z cars plenty of times. I even sold my 350Z a year after buying one brand new, because I hated it so much. Does that mean I can't express my likes/dislikes about the GTR?...or 997 Porsche's, etc... There are real enthusiasts out there...and not just forum trolls who actually care about legendary brand names and what they stand for. I feel like most folks who are hyped about the MKV Supra on this forum could care less about what gear the new car is packing....and as long as it has vents and a Supra badge, then it's a WIN!

Again, it's fine if Toyota is trying to maximize it's profits in a declining market...perfectly normal. However, if you were in a market for a Ferrari and had been waiting for years to own a new one, and Ferrari drops the news to you that they would be co-developing their next car with Dodge to share the same platform as a Charger...wouldn't you be a little heartbroken?
