It’s a stellar car no doubt! I’m biased for track = weight. So a new M2 for a daily driver would be incredible! It’s got a sweet engine, BMW solid feel, which I like, and all the latest goodies. On track, I’m having a hard time finding anything even close to this Supra - bang for the track buck… Put a set of 200tw tires on this 3300lbs Supra and she’s such a beast ?

I know this is a bit biased with this guy actually owning a 2023 Supra Manual, but it's another opinion on the new M2.

The M2 is faster period. The Supra is a, build it up with the B58 versus the S58 already in the M2, kind of car. The Supra suspension in the 2023 feels amazing and can handle better. Straight line M2 is gonna be your winner. True 2 seater sports car feel (Z, Rx7, etc) the Supra wins. I just can't get over the screen/infotainment in the M2. Call me traditional. I wish the 2023 Supra B58 had a little bit more stock power but we always have the Femto option to unlock.

Yeah I am not debating that the M2 is faster, even though we will have to wait for real world test at the strip and track. Regardless, if all we care about is the fastest car for the money, likely can buy something faster than both.

I am one of those few people who are okay with the stock power in the Supra. When 0-60 in 4 seconds becomes too slow for you, it’s likely time to start thinking about going electric.

The M2; weighs substantially more than MKV, proven to make more HP on the dyno than advertised, has a nicer interior than the MKV, four seats (not that the back seats matter), latest tech inside vs. the MKV, and TWO TURBO's vs MKV's ONE.

The MKV; still faster than the M2, looks better than the M2, costs less than the M2, and represents the segment better than the M2 (if the M2 is in the same "class").

The S58 is a good motor, but it's not without it's faults. The B58 has (so far) proven to be very reliable...even with double the HP with tuning.

Do you want a quick car that is luxurious and comfortable?....or a dedicated sports car that is fast stock that you have room to tinker with in the future? Both nice cars, and both will be a pleasant experience to drive.

Anyone else notice Thomas's reply regarding the Supra on his G87 Instagram post?

I'll reserve any judgement until I get to drive one, but it sure sounds like the G87 has lots of speed and competency with little thrills/driving engagement. Kinda like the G42 M240i. Bummer

So looks like as expected the new M2 is making more power than what BMW stated. https://www.roadandtrack.com/news/a43568186/2023-bmw-m2-dyno-video/

I like dyno graphs as much as anyone else…but I like them a lot more when there are multiple cars tested back to back with the same dyno on the same day to give it context. Depending on the dyno, it can be quite different from one type to another and how it’s calibrated. So it would have been nice if maybe a previous generation M2, current gen M3/4, the Supra/Nissan Z for good measure.

If you watch the video the weight was lower than BMW stated, but not by much, and again, context means everything. Was the number the BMW stated based on a full tank of gas? How much gas was in this vehicle, could be quite a big difference if BMWs numbers are with a full tank and this reading was on a quarter tank. I might have missed if this was a manual or auto also.

yep. Weight/gravity cannot be defeated and for any type of direction changing the Supra is going to feel way better. It’s why the GR86 and Miata are so popular despite having economy car engines. BMW hides weight well and I am sure it’s super fun to drive, but physics are physics. BUT with that weight you get a better motor and interior/technology, always a trade off
