What the hell is wrong with people?!? Do you want to sell the car or not??? Get off your lazy asses and do some work. Which means letting you test drive the car. Even just close to the dealer or around the parking lot. It’s not like you’re going mudding ? That sucks!!!!! Maybe it‘s a New Brunswick Canada thing? Some states and cities down here are more “uptight” as well. I’d move on and not buy from them for sure!!! Principle alone

It’s funny you can option all that stuff. I guess people buy it ?
Yeah I think this M2 is likely either there specifically for people who have deposits down can test drive it or it’s someone’s that is already sold and there is an agreement that it stays in the show room for X amount of days. I’m not really upset about it, I expected as much, but disappointed that a M240i is not available to drive to at least get some kind of impression.

Back in 2014 I test drove a GTI and used that info to decide on ordering a Golf R which wasn’t in our market yet. Deposit was put down in November 2014 and my car arrived in July 2015. So I don’t mind not driving the specific car I want, but do need to drive one from the family to make a sound decision.

We only have one BMW dealer in New Brunswick so not like I have many choices. Honestly, I am likely wasting their time regardless as I feel the Supra is likely a better fit for me. Just need to find one to test drive.

If you were closer, I’d let you drive mine in a heartbeat. That said, at these track HPDE events everyone is insanely friendly. I’ve let more than one person drive mine. That may be an option if you take your current car to the track.

I bough mine sight unseen. But my dealer in North Carolina (800 miles away) did ask me if I wanted to test drive it when it came in. I only had $500 down that I could have gotten back. That may be another option. Good luck and glad you’re not buying into the Austrian exotic splaination. I would have hit the floor laughing my ass off ???

Lol same, but I felt pretty confident with the Toyota folks in Shreveport, LA. Not sure they would have let me test I thought. It was the showroom vehicle and it had single digit miles on it.

I will likely do the same, $500 at the dealer, fully refundable, and hope that maybe one comes in that I can drive before having to lock in my order.

Wish we had tracks here in NB, just a drag strip and a couple of small ovals. But there is a car club that do autocross, but I don’t think there are any Supras in that group.

Going to see an new M2 on Tuesday. Sales guy said that I likely won’t be allowed to drive it, which I understand as I’m not a current customer or a BMW owner, don’t have a deposit down, and it’s in the showroom so taking it out would mean having to detail it again before putting it back in the showroom.

I asked if they had a current gen 2 series that I could drive…he said that they had a new 235 with 300hp hat will give me a good idea. Ummmm, no, that’s the 4 door FWD platform 2 liter fake BMW. Literally shares only a number with the 2 series coupe. Why are sales people so freaking bad at knowing their own product, little on what else is on the market.
The truly sad part (other than the sales guy being clueless) is that there’s a good chance the 235 is more fun to drive around town than the G87 (and almost certainly the G42). That is unless going sideways everywhere is a primary source of enjoyment. There’s just zero driver involvement with the G42 unfortunately.

I’m not even sure if that would be the case, but I haven’t exactly followed that BMW. Once I heard it was FWD based I immediately crossed it off the list of vehicles I would ever be interested in. My current vehicle (22 Civic Si) and Precious (2020 VW GLI) are FWD sedans, so I don’t need to cross that off my “car bingo card”. I will be getting a RWD vehicle next and almost certainly a sports car, which is something I haven’t had a chance to own yet and time is running out on new RWD+manual cars.

When the a90 Supra was released, they were not allowing test drives either. I was one of the lucky ones as a long time customer of the specific Toyota dealership and they had an used one with only 1100 miles that I got to test drive. The test drive sealed the deal for me to buy one definitely.

So it drives itself does a G42 like my M240i here in Switzerland in the mountains lol. I will assure you full human and fun involvement actually was taking place. Will be the same for the new M2 when it arrives! This was a fun drive last summer!!

Acadia Toyota has a Nocturnal MT on the show room floor. They offered it to me and I elected to wait for my Red MT due in this week or next. Not sure about test drives but a place to start.

I’m just going off my personal experience with the G42 and the fact that the 235 shares the Mini Cooper platform which by all accounts is pretty fun to drive. I’ve heard from a couple of folks that they found it more engaging than the G42. Of course it really depends on the experience one is after.

I’m in a similar spot to you though. I’d prefer my next car to be a RWD sports car and would skip a FWD option.

I messaged them on Thursday and they didn’t even respond. Might have to call them tomorrow to see if it’s still there.

Here’s the best angle and color thus far…

The rear angle (bumper design) and monitor style dash are the disappointments to me.

Man, every time I see the interior of the new M2. I’m less and less impressed. The dash/media screen is just painful on the eyes. The seats are the best thing by far.

This color is a good bit better than some of the others though. I still think the dark green M4>M2 in any color, even with the beaver teeth.

Ok… So I tried to explain everything y’all have been saying on the this thread, to convince my wife this car is just fugly. I didn’t even get to cost & weighs more. She‘s on BMW page trying to build one. I finally sent her a link to this thread and asked her to read it. She scanned through the pages quickly and nope, nada, nothing. She still loves it. ? It has the BMW name, is the smallest, has the best looks (in her opinion), and she can option it the way she wants… No options, and shows me the price for around $60k ?

I said the only thing you gain is a back seat. Which is not true but I started there, testing my waters. “That’s exactly what I want.“ Conversation over
Unfortunately, trends overtake actual performance nowadays. In Scottsdale, there are so many “enthusiasts” who wear Porsche gear (polo’s, fleeces, sunglasses, hats, watches, etc…) and will tell you everything about a Porsche (on paper)…yet most don't own a Porsche.

Brand marketing has overtaken true performance. If it makes you look cool and fit in a group, it will sell….regardless of its actual purpose (performance).

One advice I can give you as a married man….the happier she is (regardless of her buying decisions) the more toys you will be able to get and keep ??.
