I read somewhere that we couldn't activate the M rev counter in our HUD because of a missing module. On a BMW forum I read that some non-M car owners are installing an Mtrack module and then uing Bimmercode to code it in.

I wonder.. what are the chances that we could do the same? There are a lot of M/hud related Bimmercode settings that all seem to not work. Has anyone ever tried to hook up the missing module? Is there anyone knowledgeable in this area that thinks this might be a way forward?

Thoughts?

This response is useless other than to alert me of new comments, because this is a badass idea

According to the site that sells the M Track module, it is not compatible with cars that have BDC2, which our Supras have.

Ugh. I wonder if there is a way around this.

So I purchased the BDC3 version of the module. However so far I’ve come across two issues I’m trying to get around.

1) Our cars are NBT Evo HU and DKombi2 cluster

G20s use DKombi4 with the MGU head unit. Same thing with the G80s. That makes it difficult to just plug and play the settings like they did in the G20 retrofit.

However, the G30/F90, F96, F97 do have NBT Evo and DKombi2, so it should be possible to get the M software on the cluster/Hud right?

2) Our cars also have specific software for DKombi2 and NBT Evo.

Another issue is that our cars have software specifically designed for the cluster and head unit (iDrive).

BMW/Toyota stripped out a lot of redundant BMW/M software that would have been present in order to actually make the M Cluster/HUD work. Therefore methods like CAFD injection won’t work.

The M Track module itself doesn’t seem to cause any direct issues on our cars, but I can’t figure out which software to flash that’ll work on our cars yet. I’ve flashed over a couple of softwares, to no avail. For some reason I can’t get it to flash to the cluster.

I’m fairly sure the headunit doesn’t need to be flashed, however I haven’t tried it yet. I want to avoid getting a brick my HU or lose any FSC codes.

I’m not saying it’s impossible, but so far it’s been really tricky. I’ll try out a few more firmware and builds to see if it’ll hopefully work.

Otherwise I’ll probably wait for a cheap F90/F97/F98 cluster to pop up to see how different it is from our cluster.

In a bit of a plot twist, I simply gave up on this idea.

I still suspect it can be done.. but am no longer thinking it is really worth doing. Firstly, my partner's M car has an M HUD and it's actually pretty busy for what it is: I'm not sure I would love having that much distraction constantly in my line of sight. For context, my HUD is now coded to display my current speed only, for a very clean look. I also coded out the absolutely useless "shift lights" in the cluster and replaced them with a Galaxy Pro LED steering wheel, which does the job beautifully - I have set the LEDs to only light up when I'm really kicking the car's ass, so the rev/shift lights are completely unobtrusive in day to day driving.

I'll keep following this thread because I think it's an interesting project, but ultimately it isn't for me.
