(Bryan)call me stupid and put me on a better path (not spending $5k on coilovers right now)
spray paint some tape in yellow, put it over the holes and spend $5k on coil overs.

You said get serious about driving skills. Going fast on straights, having less drag etc..are not serious driving, they are faster lap times which is good but not something that gets you higher in the driver skill chain.

What gets you there is not having to lift much at a 90mph transition while you are wrestling the car to the other side of the track for the next corner, or carrying your brake markers further in and do a faster turn in..as in literally snap the steering faster in to position which you can do if you have less body roll/weight transfer. All these skills, abilities that carry you over other drivers who might have the similar power to weight ratio to you come from suspension.

Get good suspension. As a matter of fact calculate the best possible suspension your budget allows. Add $1500 to that and round up to the next 1000. Spend that on coilovers.

Considering people spend $1500 on tires….do 4 track days on them and then complain their are not as “fresh” and get a new set so they can put 1-2 second faster laptimes…spending $5k on a pretty much non consumable thing like coilovers should be a slam dunk.

I can't think of any pros to a staggered setup.
My thoughts were if (big if) there were a good selection of track tires, the OEM wheel size would keep the computer setup as intended, including mph accuracy. Minor stuff but that would be a pro ?

That’s tire diameter, nothing to do with non-square or square.

Whoops. I didn’t mean to substitute/interchange tires alone and leave out wheels (fixed my post above ?). When they change in size, such as with a square setup, wouldn’t that affect the speed of the rotation? It’s a minor thing but…

I do know my mph gauge reads slower with my square setup. My wife in the GTI will say she’s at 67-68 mph and I’m reading 70mph in route to the track. Now how that effects the internal computer calcs for wheel spin nannies and limits, I don’t know.

I def agree I love my square setup for the track. I was just trying to find a pro for ya Jason, in the OEM column.

Again, only thing that changes that is tire diameter. You could run 15” wheels but have tires the same diameter as OEM and the mph would be the same.

Nope. Wouldn't affect it. No benefit to a staggered setup unless trying to retain OEM understeer. For some people, safer is better.

Anyone here know a non supra specific discord server of some sort where people go in and shoot the shit regarding all things track. Mods, track maps, racing lines, racing technique, competition strategy, wheel to wheel stuff... I tried a search but keep on running in to car enthusiast servers, which is cool but not the same thing.

Edit: There is this reddit server: https://www.reddit.com/r/CarTrackDays/

@Traxion DIY on the red strips? Looks great on a dark car, maybe it'll look good on my yellow as well.
Yup it's 1/4 inch and 1/2 inch tape from Amazon. I did 1/2 inch on mirrors, front lip, side skirts, and the two small vertical stripes on the diffuser. The rest is 1/4 inch. Tip for the long straight portions is to put down one point and then touch down the farthest point and pull it semi-tight and lay it down, then go back and press it down. Pressing it down as you go in a straight line will not come out straight. Go slow when making curves, a tiny bit of heat from a hair dryer may help as well to keep the tape from pinching. Plenty of tape on a roll to redo stuff anyways and it's cheap.

Great question! Discord is probably the best platform if you want to create a Supra group. Reddit and Fakebook, can be mega sketchy. Keeping people honest is a hard feat. Everyone is Max Verstappen and the best engineer on the planet (in their minds). At least durning my short stints on there. Maybe Reddit is different. Fbook I have no patience whatsoever.

I’m on a local WhatsApp BMW FL track group. About 100 of us. I know I can actually meet/see any one of those peeps in person or on track. Another option, X - Twitter. You can find any company, racers and teams on there. Just about anyone will respond to you. It’s easy to tell who’s legit. So, that’s been my best platform for honest racing answers from real teams. They love being followed, having fans and responding. At least that’s been my experience.
