i wonder if you have to set backlash while replacing that radial seal. i would be paying extra attention after the repairs for any noises or "dragging" from the rear end. might get a whole new diff out of this.

The tech didn't go into details about the tools that he ordered, but for sure, I'll pay attention to anything out of the ordinary when I get the car back.

No backlash needs to be adjusted for a seal replacement on this setup.

Yeah, that's part of the delay with fixing these, as the tech needs to request certain tools that Toyota North America will loan out to the dealership, on a case by case basis. I just read the directions for replacing the seal, and one of the "tools" involved is..a hair dryer.

I mean, I understand the need for heat guns, and we all have them, but it's funny to me that instead of a professional heat gun, they actually use the term "hair dryer." Heat guns must be too strong for this particular need.

This reminds me of when you’re on the phone with the IT department and they forget the whole remote access thing and you can literally watch them Google the issue you’ve called about right on the screen.

Id have them note it, clean it off, and see if it keeps leaking, if it keeps leaking have them put drain/refill and put in dye to verify where it is coming from.

it's probably a translation thing. There are a bunch of funny ways of saying things in the service manual.

Actually, the technician took photos that showed the leak path. It was not coming from a weep hole.

Remember that when you install many mods, you, too "rip apart" the car. And we've all seen all the issues posted on this forum from doing that.

Took mine in twice for this. First time they re torqued the drain plug. Still leaked, The 2nd time they agreed to swap fluid and replace the fill/drain plugs under warranty
