Bro, 45th is special, the buffeting sounds like a submarine instead of a helicopter.
They added a 2mm spacer behind just the right exterior mirror mounting plate, which in turn creates a different airflow channel, now giving the driver the joy of pressure pulses in an 'alternating frequency'

but I've been told that switching to Ravenol 5W-40 and installing the "functional" hood vents nullifies all problems. Even the interior creaking goes away.

Op is an engineer. They all know everything. You are wasting keyboard strokes.

When I was a custom home builder I had to add 15% to my proposal just to cover everything they knew better than I during construction.

I would just nod my head and write up a change order too “yes, I am sure you are correct”

The wind buffeting definitely exists.

You just aren't going fast enough with the windows down.
If I am going fast enough, I'm already on the highway and it would make no sense to have the windows open at highway speeds. (which average 80 with little-to-no traffic)
The speed range at which I drive in the suburbs where there are houses that line the street is 40-45 mph. My MX5 handles wide open driving very nicely.
By the way, my wife's Lexus SUV will produce a helicopter sound at low speed if the rear windows are down.

Bob, it looks like some engineer in your life was a pompous a** who thought he or she knew everything. I can assure you, that I am not like that person. I have learned from assemblers, technicians, HVAC techs, accountants, buyers, managers, QA techs, auto techs, and even janitors, to name just a small number.

Virtually anyone can learn something from someone else, yet you should not immediately take what is said as the best solution. Even experts make mistakes. (as you well know)

Just to be clear, are you saying your 45th doesn't have buffeting issues? Because what we are telling you is that nothing has changed so it will be exactly the same as all MK5 Supras.

Just to be clear, are you saying your 45th doesn't have buffeting issues? Because what we are telling you is that nothing has changed so it will be exactly the same as all MK5 Supras.

I am saying that to me, my 2024 does not have a buffeting issue at the speeds during which my windows are open (up to 45 mph or so). It's kinda like saying that I am okay with my Supra's interior having a sound level of 68 db with the windows closed. Some people might say that this car is too loud under those conditions.

Of course, when I was much younger, I went to too many rock concerts, so my hearing is not really good by any stretch of the imagination.

45th and 45 mph. ;)

So yea, the same as all years. The buffeting is more air pressure than sound. You'll know it when it happens.

Porsches have the same issue.

My GTI does it if only 3 windows are down. I constantly have to slightly crack my wifes window when I am driving or my brain wants to explode.
Thought you gave up?

Now you all are on to comparing windows???

Unless @FuzzyRev85 is running your dealership, I’d say 99% of them shouldn’t be working on our cars. Be extra careful if you go this route. Many of us are now at independent mechanics or some have the know how to do it themselves (best method). But I wouldn’t let your brand new car be that test mule. That’s kinda the take home message.

Unless @FuzzyRev85 is running your dealership, I’d say 99% of them shouldn’t be working on our cars. Be extra careful if you go this route. Many of us are now at independent mechanics or some have the know how to do it themselves (best method). But I wouldn’t let your brand new car be that test mule. That’s kinda the take home message.

The way I see things is that I have the following options:

1. Let the Supra-specific ASE tech replace the input shaft seal. Verify that he has driven the car afterwards and checked for leaks.
2. Ignore the tech's analysis and photos, pull the car from the dealership, wipe up the leak, and drive it as usual while occasionally wiping up the diff fluid from my garage floor.
3. Take my car to an independent mechanic with 30+ years of experience (if I can find one), hope that he has the special tools required, and eat the $600 bill.

Historical note: I've had dealership techs do all kinds of repairs and/or maintenance to many of the cars that I've owned. I cannot recall having any issues. Lucky? Perhaps.
Years ago I did more of this stuff and still do oil and filters, but there are certain things, especially those that require a lift that I won't do anymore.

Years ago I did more of this stuff and still do oil and filters, but there are certain things, especially those that require a lift that I won't do anymore.
Personally if it were me with the history of overfilling and venting I'd Pull the fill/level plug and see if it's overfilled and if it is let it drain to the fill/level port 6 o'clock clean the whole thing down with solvent and monitor it before I let the tech loose on a pinion shaft seal change. Often the " obvious" isn't where the leaks source actually is. The number of Ecoboost turbo oil feed line banjo crush washers that have been replaced for a front timing cover oil leak you wouldn't believe but it's the covers leak "collection point" and an easy fix that gets the customer off the dealers back so thats what they replace. Multiple times over on the same car in some cases.
