Fake steering and brakes? The M2 is an M4 from the motor to the chassis to the brakes/suspension. Go drive one. You have zero rational opinion based on your post LOL. Takes very little to post what you did. Try thinking and actually having knowledge of the platform to begin with.
Drove one.

Yea it's gonna be a no.

Manual sucks/traditional BMW shifter slop brand new out the gate.

Touchscreens everywhere is AIDS.

S58 might be a beast of an engine but it sounds horrid.

Weight was noticeable, it's larger and wider than the outgoing F87.

Overall, I think it's actually good value for what it is, but there are A LOT of compromises.

Dare I say, more than the Supra.

Drove my friend's manual G87, haven't driven the F87 so can't compare, but it doesn't feel like it's 3700+ lbs, was quite surprised.

Looks are subjective, I think it's ugly in a good looking way. Shifter is ok, not the best not the worst.

My wife and I owned two 5 series BMWs and absolutely loved them! I never considered tracking them. Had a Mazda twin turbo RX7 for that. But for in town driving, wow, they were such great cars. After our 1st kid, the wife ordered a X5 with a manual from Germany. We probably had the lowest priced X5 in the US. Love the “leatherette“ for kids. Kept that sucker for years! Anyway… this M2 may be the last, lightest, BMW made. Hence we dig it.

The Supra turned out being a better track weapon than probably Toyoto or BMW intended. Thus it’s not an apples to apples comparison to the Supra by any means, if that’s what was intended by the OP of this thread. So it’ll never win that contest imo & agree with y’all.

Yet I’m biased. I’ve loved BMW’s long standing title of best 4 door sports car ever since I can remember picking up a car magazine in my early yoof. The BMW M2 = refined and badass. No mods needed. Supra, throw on a loud ass exhaust = holy ? ? ? Two different animals fo sho

As someone who has an 04 X5 6MT as a dog hauler/winter car, it steers better than the Supra and my M5.

The X3 and X5 were the last to move to electronic steering right? They held onto hydraulic steering the longest I believe.

The thing is, you can do electronic steering pretty well. The steering in my Fiesta ST was very communicative.

Coming from decades of Evo ownership, most steering feels like ass to me.

Yes they kept the hydraulic steering for a while, tbh up until 2013 BMW was steering decent.

Now they suck.

I actually Turo the same Fiesta ST every time I'm in LA, I love that thing.

More compromises than the Supra?? Thats shocking to hear because the Supra like a lot of Toyotas (collaboration in this case but I've owned a lot of them) usually comes with a lot of compromises for a guy who's not tall (5' 9") and for someone who is not obese. The Supra feels cramped to me, I need a back pillow to help me not hurt my back, sight of view is not the best, etc. I plan on test driving a G87 soon so I can find out for myself.

Mine feels like a glove. But coming from a MX5 (still own it) and a S2K, my viewpoint is a bit skewed.

How about this lighter version with a B58 engine mated to the ZF transmission ?

Interesting assessment of the M2 here -

that gray looks pretty good with the blocky angles. .02
That angle, the front really looks like an R34..
Really cool kid/guy driving it too! He had one of those high end Camaros before the M2. Loaded track version with Lego stickers & McDonalds ? bag on the wang ? . Dude is fast and hard to shake off your tail. Even in such a heavy car. However, it wasn’t the most reliable car. So he got the M2

He said Jackie Ding is working with him on the M2. So I’m sure he’ll be flying by me at my next track event. They know how to do all the seat coding and looks like he’ll be going dedicated track with it. Can‘t wait to see what it’ll do when fitted properly (gear & driver). I bet it’ll fly! Will keep y’all posted.

I’ve had a deposit for a manual Supra since April 2023. Still no allocations. Haven’t even had a chance to test drive one yet.

Today, I went to a BMW dealership and a Toyota dealership to test drive the new G87 M2 and a 2.0 AT Supra (no 3.0 Supras were within decent driving distance). I wanted to have a back-to-back experience with both to better compare them. Didn’t end up being able to test drive either (the M2 on the lot was already sold and the Supra was in the showroom). I was able to sit in both, though.

Did the M2 first. It was white and honestly looks a lot better in person. It was nice, but I didn’t really care for the huge screen. Messed around with the seat and steering wheel to get a good position, but couldn’t get a good angle where I could see the instrument cluster without obstructing parts of it. Seats were fine and comfortable enough. Steering wheel was thick, which I liked, but the material didn’t wow me. It was an automatic, so I also sat in a new M4 to get the feel of the stick shift (since it’s the same) and whether it’s “rubbery” or not. It felt great. I didn’t have an issue with it at all.

Then I went to see the Supra. It was in red and looked gorgeous just sitting in the showroom (my deposit is for either blue or white). Sat in it, and it fit just like a glove. The bolsters were so much better than the M2 and the positioning of the steering wheel and instrument cluster was perfect. It’s supposedly smaller inside than the M2, but it didn’t feel like it. I strangely felt more cramped in the M2. Similar with the visibility too.

I’ve pretty much solidified that I love the Supra even more now after comparing (sans the actual driving). Finding a manual Supra is pretty much unobtanium, though. Meanwhile, the guy from BMW gave me printouts of three M2s that should be arriving soon. All three are manual. He said he’ll let me know when they’re in, so I can take one for a test drive.
