I also find it interesting how nobody has mentioned anything about the electric ebrake? It seems as if the last drivers car is a GT86.

Is the demand not overwhelming for the manual? Whos buying these automatics? LOL. I don't care how good the auto is I still prefer to be involved with shifting the car.

According to Toyota they talked to Supra fans/enthusiasts and a M/T was not a big requirement. :bs:

I think BMW decided that the 3.0L Supra will not get a manual. Toyota either didn't have a say in this or doesn't care.

Yeah wanted to post something on lines of what you said. We have to play this smart. We have to get as many people to back whatever way we choose to convince Toyota to offer a manual.

Like many have said, they can't possibly build a drivers car and not offer a manual. I see a world 30+ years in the future where autonomous and electric cars are 90% of the road. But these last few manual, driver-oriented cars will be the ones we car lovers save (along with older, simpler classics). Where we pay 9 bucks for a tank of gas to hit the track or back roads. That is the tradition and legacy Toyota is turning away from by not offering a manual.

Goddamn, I'm getting a little fired up. How can we convince them?

I so agree with you in the future 30 years. I think its going to happen sooner than that like 15-20 years where most people drive an EV everyday. Heck, I will gladly drive an EV everyday (which will be auto obviously) once they get some cooler looking ones out.

BUT for those weekends... I 100% do not want an auto sports car since our daily will be an ev auto most likely. You are seeing the last generation ICE manual cars forever IMO. 10 years from now will be almost impossible to get a manual car. I want to row the gears for sure (this is if my knees stay in good shape in 30 years when im 60). Get them now while you can, they wont be around forever.

I would recommend going into dealers and stressing to them that you would be buying the car but then only thing holding you back is the transmission
Let them.see they are losing a sale over it. Not just annoyed but still buying it anyways.

Email toyoya directly. Be polite state that the reason you arent buying it right now is the transmission.

Hopefully we can make it clear to them. I mean in all fairness I havent driven a ZF8 but i just cant imagine not having a clutch pedal in a sports car.

This is a good idea. Ive already expressed my statement to Toyota so hopefully it counts for something. However! Just like the GTR which I drove on and off for 4 years, I loved it but its not nearly as connecting as a manual transmission and I prefer the rowing of gears. Felt like a computer game honestly and Im afraid the auto in the new Supra will feel the same.

For proper eBrake; as in for drifting or hardcore-180deg-cone-Uturns in autoX, hydrobrakes is the way to go (even in cars with an actual handbrake lever). Its not too hard to install.
and..lol...looking for potential locations to install it was the 1st thing I checked out in the official interior shots.

Agreed. Maybe if I have some time this week, and have as much passion and emotion as it would need, I'll write a letter directed at Toyota. If you all believe in it as much as I do then we can sign it, maybe send it out to a couple organizations like drivetribe, etc. for more exposure, then send it off.

The thought of letting my dream car slip away because it lacks one key feature is detrimental.

I think you misinterpreted him. I don't think he was embarrassed by the A80 but embarrassed for Toyota that they did not have a new, competitive sports car and what did it say as a company that he had to use something old. Nothing about the vehicle per Se.

^^ This. The whole presentation was very stilted, teleprompter-driven and focus group combed but what Akio meant wasn’t that he disparaged the A80. He loved and still loves the A80. He was in line to run Toyota Motor Corporation (or he already was by that time) and he was dismayed that his company’s flagship sports car being campaigned in that race was out of production so long while other companies were still making and selling new versions of their own. And he wanted to do something about that.

This sentiment just came off in an awkward way at the event with his delivery.

And in so far as Australian of the North’s post about how integral the programming and control the ZF 8HP is to making the MKV’s performance figures attainable by “any driver”... I agree.

If you remove it and introduce a manual transmission then the onus is on the driver/owner to bring that skill out of themselves. It also allows them to drive the car as lazily or as sharply as they please or can muster.

Sadly a lot of manual MKV’s also probably means higher fleet emissions. But... this is the last pure combustion sports car they will make. It’s a window of opportunity to do a legend in this specific way one more time before electrification encroaches.

It’s already engineered so... just give it the manual starting for model year 2021.

Plenty of people will still buy the automatic. And it’s worlds better than the old A340E 4-speed overdrive automatic from the A80. It’s good.

It’s just not a traditional three-pedal 6-speed manual and never will be.

99% of people who buy this are not looking at lap times or 0-60... That is all for braging rights for 99% of buyers. Its cool to me but it doesnt make or break the car for me. If you want those, the auto is great for that and go for it! But the truth is most people who buy this will probably be non car people and will buy the auto because they will just drive it in rush hour daily.

But that is not for me and some others on this forum...Some of us want to actually have more control and push our ability to its limits. I still want a manual, its more fun for the weekend which is where 99% of my MKV driving would be.

Manual option = instant deposit for me, otherwise Im still waiting.

Like @mkivalex said, I think the best approach would be to email Toyota or visit dealerships and voice our opinion about the manual. We should also send them that vote we had a year ago. I suppose persistence is key here.

I posted this in another thread:

I don't think people should remove the auto box, its massive part of the the DNA of this car.

Why? - The Auto box is there to make sure you can't negatively interfere with the driving, just like its digital oversight on the steering, throttle, braking and the mountain of software systems. That's how it achieves its 4.1s time, faster than higher HP cars.

Toyoda said it directly 100% - "ANYONE CAN DRIVE THIS CAR", and Alonso the same thing " Its a race car anybody can drive". The car is over-sighting everything you do, and in order to make sure it will go faster than you can, and the Auto box is one of the central players in that system. It fixes or entirely removes the ability of the driver to make mistakes.

If you now go and put in a manual box, you are removing a critical and interconnected driving control system, one which makes the A90, and most modern cars, so quick.

With a manual box, you would then have to give back the driver a ton of control, and that will slow the cars performance down. The vast majority of people are not able to accurately perform clutch, gear, and RPM management action. let alone directional control, entry/exit speed, braking or momentum management - and they especially don't have the ability to do it perfectly time and time again. The computer can and will - Its simply better/faster than you (the human) are, and its why its there with that components like that auto box.

Unless you have plenty of knowledge skill and experience in launching hard without driver aids, the average driver is not going to sub 5 seconds in an A90. Without that auto gearbox, the digital controlling oversight, and left to amateur inexperience, you are never going to cut great lap times over and over. With the auto-box and the digital oversight however, the car will. First time, almost every-time.

If you take system driving control and oversight away from cars like the A90 and give input back to the driver, the driving experience becomes too reliant on driver skill under load. When that happens, the real world car stats go back to on par with 1993, as actual driving skills are required again. So the auto box and the high end tech is super critical to the car ... taking any of it away will be of detriment to the cars high tech engineering, which is its party piece.

If your buying the package for what it can do, why throw out the most important parts and give yourself so much more driving load/work? The car is all about tech and high end engineering, following the principal of maximizing available performance for even the least capable drivers. Let the machine be what its built to be. If you give it a manual and or remove all the driver aids + controlling systems, you regress it back to an A80. Which means you might as well have started with an A80 in the first place.

The A80 by the way, is the car by the way, which Toyoda insulted at launch calling it all but a piece of embarrassing crap when driving it at the ring, but kept saying it was his old friend who he missed ...a very strange relationship... he did say the A90 is "lit" though...

Oh well.... I Guess I'm just ok with being "embarrassed" in my A80 Mr Toyoda.
Its not that they should remove the auto tranny, but at least give the option for a manual even if it is slower. Porsche did the same thing. I can understand a car like the R35 GTR needing to be auto, but a car like the Supra should be in a manual.

I mean if I wanted a car to drive itself I'd just buy a Tesla.
